"A slight and repetitive but cute farming game, Slime Rancher doesn't quite reach the heights of its sub-genre."

"I absolutely loved Slime Rancher, from the colourful start to the bittersweet ending that literally had me sobbing—something that is quite hard for video games to achieve."

This has been my first steam game, whith which I have been in love ever since I first saw it in a gameplay video. The graphics are cute, the slimes as well and the different areas have a lovely design. All the areas have their own look and are more complex than one might think at the first moment; there is even an individual soundtrack for different parts of the map. The map is another interesting thing because you have to work to get the actual map. There are a few stations you have to find in order to get access to the detailed map of the area. There is so much to discover! Discovering things is also this whole game's idea: you are thrown into a world you don't know and have to learn everything from scratch. There are very few instructions and tips in the beginning but they mostly cover the controls. I personally love this kind of game but a friend of mine didn't like is as much :D. Now to the main part of the game: the slimes. They are very unique and have their own "ticks". Some of them are easier to handle than others, some can go unfed for eternity, some have the ability to escape, all of them have a different favourite food. The idea of giving them their own "personalities" is just cute and makes the game a lot more interesting and alive. There is also an underlying story to the game but you don't exactly have to follow it. I is mostly told by letters and and story stations that you can find in the world. It is cute and well made as well, but not the main part of the game and not really all that important either. That being said I have to admit that this leads to the one thing that I found disappointing: there is a last area you can discover (where the story leads to and also ends) that has no realy point to it. You can walk through but there is nothing else there. When I got there in my first playthrough I was disappointed that this last part just felt empty and lifeless. Maybe that was the whole point to it but in that case the story didn't really explain that enough. All in all, however, this is an amazing and incredibly relaxing game. i fing myself coming back to it over and over again. If you like this tyle of game and the design, then go for it! :)
