About SOLASTA Crown of the Magister

About this game

Roll for initiative, take attacks of opportunity, manage player location and the verticality of the battle field. Set yourself up for the finishing strike and possibly roll a natural 20 at that key moment of battle. In Solasta, you take control of four heroes, each with unique skills that complement one another. Every hero expresses themselves in the adventure, making each action and dialog choice a dynamic part to the story. Players will create their heroes just as they would in a pen-and-paper game choosing their race, class, personality and rolling for their stats. Wizards of the Coast granted Tactical Adventures a license to use the Dungeons and Dragons SRD 5.1 Ruleset. You make the choices, dice decide your destiny.

True to Tabletop

Wizards of the Coast granted Tactical Adventures a license to use the Dungeons and Dragons SRD 5.1 Ruleset, further anchoring our will to make the most faithful video game adaptation with the Tabletop Ruleset and craft the game you are hoping for!

An Epic Team Adventure.

Discover the shattered world of Solasta: explore ruins and dungeons for legendary treasures, learn the truth of an age-old cataclysm - and stop it from happening again.

Create your very own party of adventurers with our Character Creation Tool in the classic tabletop RPG tradition. Breathe life into your heroes, and see their personalities reflected in their dialogue. Tailor your squad to your preferred strategy and maximizes your party's abilities. The choice is yours.

Discover a Mysterious & Dynamic World.

Delve into long forgotten dungeons to unearth ancient artifacts, but stay watchful of light and darkness: many dangers hide in the dark, but a light can attract monsters. Some enemies have darkvision, some may flee from your torch... Successful adventurers will learn to use it to their advantage.

Fight monsters in squad-level, turn-based, tactical combat. Solasta's dynamic environment offers some interesting tactical options. Bridges can collapse, leaving enemies stranded and vulnerable. Walls and columns can be pushed over - on top of your foes, if you do it right. The world is your playground.

Prepare to Think in Three Dimensions.

The dungeons in Solasta are more than flat game-boards. Climb, jump, or fly around obstacles. Evade or surprise foes from above or below. Push them into chasms or drop things on their heads. Position yourself on high grounds to start the fight with an advantage.

Size also matters. Escape through narrow passages where bigger enemies won't fit and crawl through tunnels to find secret areas. Take advantage of the environment to find cover suited to your own size. Watch out, though - the monsters are also thinking vertically.

It's a good RPG romp in the D&D world. I enjoy the character building more than anything, as you can construct all four members of your party from the start. There are issues with it - the usual turn-based junk like point-blank, high-skill rolls missing at critical moments. Some loot occasionally becomes trapped under objects or terrain and you cannot pick it up. You can customize a lot of the game, including difficulty. What you heard is true - the character models ARE in fact quite ugly - like school project level. The third female voice is also a dude's so expect some woke nonsense to make it into play (thankfully on a limited scale). But overall, I do not regret my purchase. Over 30 hours in now.

My P&P D&D group was moving to an online virtual tabletop for our new campaign. The VTT (Foundry) uses a mod based on the Solasta interface for combat. This game was a great way to practice, and get used to the online interface.

I'm only recommending this game if you are very much into this style of D&D simulator. The lack of role playing is the top problem, but camera controls comes in close second. Graphics are also of a 3-D style that is not as good as other modern 3-D isometric games. No real replay value inherent in the game you are completely reliant on players creating new content.

Fun turn based battles between blah story stuff.

The turn based fights are pretty great if you have been hankering for something that feels very D&D. The stuff between the fights is often dull and tedious though. Not a bad game to play while you wait for Baldur's Gate III to be finished. If you're looking for a great story, great lore, and deep characters though look elsewhere. If I could skip everything and just go to the battles I would do so. The battles are fun.

Great classic ARPG based on DnD ruleset, voiceacting is wonky but the gameplay is solid.

In the end, it's pretty impressive what a relatively small team has achieved with this game. The gameplay is based on turn-based combat, which strictly follows the rules of the fifth edition of Dungeons and Dragons. To play the trivial and obligatory added story, you can either choose previously created characters or create your own. You can also create your own campaigns or play already created ones by the community. The editor is quite impressive, especially for your own characters, and the interactions between the characters depending on their alignment and values are quite amusing. Apart from the great battles, there is unfortunately not too much to see here and putting classes behind DLCs is a bit impertinent. It's quite an entertaining time to spend with Solasta, before realizing that there are better games in the genre. Also, crafting sucks. Play it if you like CRPGs and want something like BG3, that isn't BG3.
