About Song of Farca

About this game

WELCOME TO THE FUTURE

Song of Farca takes place in the near future, where technology isn't just part of everyday life – some things are now impossible without it. IT corporations gradually gain more and more influence, becoming a modern aristocracy that couldn't care less about the law or mere mortals. Criminal organizations are still trying to resist the powerful corporations, but even they understand that the city of Farca is entering a cyberpunk future. They know that their golden age is over.

YOUR INTELLECT IS YOUR WEAPON

As private detective Isabella Song, you must navigate the city's disparate factions and investigate the most complex, seemingly unrelated cases with the help of gadgets, a small army of drones, and your intellect. Though Izy is under house arrest after a bar fight, that won’t stop her from doing her job. Getting online is no problem for a hacker, after all.

HARNESS TECHNOLOGY

You must uncover information through hacking, surveillance, and the internet, create an information cloud from leads and logically connect them to draw conclusions and apply them in dialogues.

ARE YOU PREPARED FOR THE CONSEQUENCES?

As the plot progresses, things get more complicated. The stakes get higher, and the various plot strands come together to form a single story. The choices you make in investigations have important consequences to the plot. Do you convict the suspect that all the evidence is pointing to or dig deeper? What collateral damage will you leave behind you?

An interesting detective story set in a unique and realised world. The characters are colourful and the dialogue is fun, while some of the mini puzzles are a bit tricky. Through there are technically branching narrative paths, I felt like there was a bit of problem with "illusion of choice" in some key moments which I'm personally not bothered by but is something to be aware of.

Mixed. Some puzzles are really abstract. There are many moments where the game is intentionally slow and the player cannot do anything, and that quickly gets old. The story builds to a big reveal, but even paying minimal attention it is not a surprise. The easter egg at the end of the credits is a nice touch – though only there if you make specific decisions. It takes at least 3 play-throughs to get all achievements and subsequent play-throughs are painful. There is no way to skip the text animation, and those intentional slow parts are even more annoying. Instead of enhancing the game, the achievements make the game less enjoyable. No technical problems on Ubuntu Linux 22.04

Good game, worth it if it has a small discount

This game isn't flawless but it's so much fun. It kept me entertained through its brilliant design choices and fresh dialogue. Some of the dialogue did feel like pulling teeth but those moments are few and far between.
