Art style is a bit mixed, and the story could be better but gameplay is top for this type of games

The biggest positive in this game are the characters themselves and the setting. I can't emphasize enough how happy I am they actually created a cast of adult characters with a sassy female lead who is not a silent blank slate. Ringo is actually one of the best Atlus characters around, but it's a shame she doesn't get a fully fleshed out development. It's also unfortunate that bad sales or reviews will be correlated with the idea that "games with female characters don't sell" or "this didn't do well because it wasn't set in a high school". Dungeons are repetitive, but then again I wasn't exactly expecting a SMT V semi-open world experience here to begin with. The closest thing I could compare them to is P5 Mementos, which personally I don't mind too much. Soul Matrix leaves much to be desired but it's fun to play idly. Battles feel like standard SMT experience but I'm glad they at least tried to innovate it somewhat, rather than just slap on the SMT V system. I know people miss press turn system, but I can do without if it means getting to develop different strategies with familiar demons and skills. The UI and environments (especially the city) look good, in line with what I've come to expect from a modern Atlus game. Maybe it didn't get a high enough budget or as much love as Persona game would but that didn't stop the devs from doing the best they could with the aesthetics.

A SMT dungeon crawler with Persona combat

Pros: - Ringo, a voiced female protagonist with a fun wisecracking personality. - The main cast is pretty well designed and voiced. - The story is pretty standard prevent apocalypse, save the world cliché of the Megaten games, no plot holes from I've seen. - Nice visual design portraying the cyberpunk setting, it could very well be an anime movie. - Music is great as usual for the Megaten franchise. - Gameplay is pretty similar to the Persona games where you control 4 party members each equipped with demons adding their stats and skills to your repertoire. The only difference is hitting weaknesses do not gain you an extra turn, but instead adding stacks so Ringo can perform a demon all-out attack at the end of your phase. Cons: - Dull and boring dungeon designs, although not too frustrating like some of the previous SMT games. - Final boss of the main game was too easy compared to the DLC dungeon bosses since the recommended level to fight the last DLC boss is 99, and you have to finish the DLC story before fighting the main final boss. I would rate this game 8/10. A good entry point for new fans of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, since it has a nice story and character interactions, and is not too difficult compared to the previous SMT games.

There is a lot to love with Soul Hackers 2, the music, the setting, the characters and the story stands out from the usual defeat god ending which plagues a lot of the Shin Megami Tensei games. The Sabbath/Stack system also adds a new depth to the turn based formula, rewarding players for exploiting weaknesses by having a special end of turn attack damage all enemies based on how well you performed. Now with that being said, the start to this game is brutal. Incredibly slow, tutorial heavy and railroady. You don't even get to sprint in this game. Around 5 hours in you could potentially unlock a slight jog as a skill but that's the best you'll get. Also the biggest issue for me is how some elemental affinities have been removed. This makes the majority of demons feel the same, which has always been an issue with the Shin Megami Tensei games. Even with these issues though I would still recommend playing Soul Hackers 2 however you will need a little patience in the first couple of hours. Since its a Atlus game, I might be a little bias so you may or may not want to take my word for it. Game is pretty interesting so far especially the world and character, despite not having played Soul Hackers 1. I think the only let down of the game so far is the simplicity of the dungeons. The side quest are okay and nothing too special. The interaction between the main characters have been enjoyable so far.
