About Space Engineers

About this game

Space Engineers is an open world sandbox game defined by creativity and exploration.

It is a sandbox game about engineering, construction, exploration and survival in space and on planets. Players build space ships, wheeled vehicles, space stations, planetary outposts of various sizes and uses (civil and military), pilot ships and travel through space to explore planets and gather resources to survive. Featuring both creative and survival modes, there is no limit to what can be built, utilized and explored.

Space Engineers features a realistic, volumetric-based physics engine: everything in the game can be assembled, disassembled, damaged and destroyed. The game can be played either in single or multiplayer modes.

Volumetric objects are structures composed from block-like modules interlocked in a grid. Volumetric objects behave like real physical objects with mass, inertia and velocity. Individual modules have real volume and storage capacity.

Space Engineers is inspired by reality and by how things work. Think about modern-day NASA technology extrapolated 60 years into the future. Space Engineers strives to follow the laws of physics and doesn't use technologies that wouldn't be feasible in the near future.

Space Engineers concentrates on construction and exploration aspects, but can be played as a survival shooter as well. We expect players will avoid engaging in direct man-to-man combat and instead use their creativity and engineering skills to build war machines and fortifications to survive in space and on planets. Space Engineers shouldn’t be about troops; it should be about the machinery you build.

Spaceship! SpACeShiP!! SPACESHIP!!! *ahem* I dropped out of Engineering at UBC half way through second year. This game doesn't require Integral Calculus, which I failed because I put all my effort into passing Matrices And Linear Equations, which I barely passed. That was in 1998, I've forgotten all of it by now. My point is that if I can figure out this game, you can too. Unless you're too neurotypical to hyperfocus and read wikis, in which case go drink a Mountain Dew and play Hero's Duty or whatever. Don't give this game a thumbs down just because it isn't for basic bros. Shhh... let us have this.

I played it since it was in beta and it's the best space game out there in my opinion. Endless creativity, very immersive, full of possibilities.

This game is a prototypical sandbox. If you want to build massive ships with your friends and then fight each other it's pretty great. If you want to play it as a survival game it's a little more threadbare. Modding can fill some gaps but the survival experience is still not very fleshed out.

An alarm and depressurization jerks you awake out of hyper-sleep, you hear alarms blaring in your ear and the ship computer yelling at you that there was a collision, life support systems are failing and oxygen levels are at 58%. You crawl out of your sleep pod just before your thrown off your feet. Another collision. Somehow the ship must have gone right through an asteroid field. As you step through the door in to the crews quarters you see your locker. and your gear. "I guess I got to go fix this mess!" you think as you put your suit and helmet on. You grab your pack of tools and an extra oxygen tank, just in case and head to the airlock!

I truly enjoy the learning curve in this game, trying to figure out how to build things to solve your problems. I would like more survival and NPC elements in the game to add more challenges outside of the engineering aspect. There are lots of mods available to help change and tailor the game to suit how you want to play.

Space Engineers allows player to build their own world and spaceships. Featuring plenty of resources to use, Space Engineers allows for a personalized experience that is out of this world.
