About Spidersaurs

About this game

Alert! Alert! The nightmarish dinosaur-spider hybrids known as Spidersaurs have run amok and only you (and a friend in co-op mode) can stop them! Created by InGest Corp to provide the meat and muscle that humanity needs to end world hunger, the Spidersaurs are now on the loose, leaving it to two former taste-testers – officer-in-training Adrian and punk-rocker Victoria – to use their awesome firepower to overcome six stages of ferocious run-'n'-gun action. Blast through a sweltering jungle, an infested laboratory, the heart of a live volcano, and more! The tangy food source with a bite is biting back, but by grabbing power-ups, gaining new abilities, and obliterating everything in sight, you can send these mutant monstrosities back to the stone age.

Key Features:

  • Intense, Saturday-morning-cartoon-style action for one or two players — complete with theme song and epic intro from Powerhouse Animation!
  • Two distinct playable characters: punk rocker Victoria and officer-in-training Adrian!
  • Unleash awesome firepower — everything from spread guns and lasers to detonating footballs and bass-heavy electronica! Twelve weapons in all!
  • Explosive environments including volcanoes, jungles, laboratories, and more!
  • A menagerie of unique and terrifying Spidersaurs to battle!
  • Unlock new abilities as you advance through the InGest Corp facility!
  • Three difficulty settings: Well Done, Medium, and Rare!
  • Unlockable arcade mode and speedrun mode!

I beat Spidersaurs's story mode on medium difficulty. It is a challenging, run and gun, and 2D side-scrolling game like Contra. It is a beautiful game with well done art. The game is short but on medium difficulty I had to retry levels multiple times. It has an old school difficulty level. In story mode after completing a level the player unlocks more abilities like being able to use a vertical grappling hook, being able to dash, and a vertical dash down to the ground that can damage enemies. The designs and animations are amazing. The voice acting, music, character abilities, and gameplay is enjoyable, so why is it 4 stars instead of 5? You can farm 1-ups and health pickups by defeating enemies. The enemies will keep spawning in some places just like in Contra. That makes the issues I have with the game more bearable. One issue I have is that some segments of the game work better with particular weapons and when you die in the game you lose the weapon you currently are using. That can be mitigated by switching to another weapon slot when you have low health so you can avoid losing a particular weapon that you need. Then there are cases where a particular weapon makes a situation easier like being able to hit an enemy behind a barrier. The other issue is that in boss battles there are no weapon spawns ,so if you lose your weapons in a boss battle you'll be stuck with the default weapon until you beat the boss. Overall, I enjoyed the game. The levels are short and after defeating a mid-level boss the game will give you a spawn point so if you lose all your lives after that point you'll re-spawn where you defeated the mid-level boss.

Really fun game that plays a lot like Contra.

Really fun game that plays a lot like contra. My only problem with the game is its length. It's about 2 hours long. Not any worse than a Contra but I would have still liked a bit more. What is there is great.

Good mix of saturday morning cartoon style mixed with some contra and some great voice overs.

If you want Contra mixed with saturday morning cartoons then look no further! Spidersaurs is going to scratch that itch. Even if you are looking for an incredible run 'n gun game, Spidersaurs is a great addition. Contra 4 was released on the Nintendo DS in 2007. The foundation that game set is seen here and a lot of the mechanics seen there are transferred and build upon in Spidersaurs. The added content makes Spidersaurs more "full" than it's Apple Arcade release. The new ending, stages, and enemies are a welcomed addition. There are also two new modes added. Arcade mode and speedrun mode. Arcade mode is all thriller no filler. The cut scenes are removed and abilities are unlocked in order. Speedrun mode is self-explanatory except all abilities are unlocked out of the gate. I completed story mode with both characters, Victoria and Adrian, Victoria is more adept and controlling the screen and can make ease of enemies while never stopping. Her arsenal helps cover wide areas of the screen. Adrian is a powerhouse with his arsenal. While he does have some screen covering weapons, they are nowhere near as helpful as Vicotrias. The flamethrower (upgraded) is probably the best weapon for stages while his exploding football makes a lot of the bosses trivial. If you are looking something to play with a friend or continue your love for 80's/90's vibes then this is perfect. There are three adjustable difficulties so don't feel intimated or deflated when individuals compare this to Contra. This game is much more welcoming!
