About Spirit Hunter: Death Mark

About this game

You have been Marked...

A strange rumor is spreading through the shadows of Tokyo's H City: a mysterious disfigurement, like a grotesque birthmark, has been appearing on the bodies of certain individuals. Anyone who receives the Mark will rapidly die of unknown, horrifying causes.

Deprived of your memories, you arrive at a mansion rumored to protect the bearers of the Mark. As the doors swing open, the countdown to death has already begun...

Key Features

  • Search and Survive! - To avoid an almost certain gruesome death at the “hands” of angry spirits, you’ll need to search your surroundings for clues to increase your odds of survival.
  • Ghost Busting - Sometimes the sword is more powerful than the pen. And when words fail it’s time to stand your ground. Remember the price of not holding your own is an untimely death.
  • Riddle Me This - It’s not enough to defeat the spirit that cursed you, you need to do it in the right way. If you don’t you might survive, but end up wishing you hadn’t. Be sure to parse all the clues and information you discover correctly to make your life continue to be worth living.

The best horror game of 2020 There is little to be desired except that it is not written in Korean

Spooky visual novel with some light RPG mechanics. Still maneged to be scary despite using still images of (well designed) monsters. Recommended for an atypical horror experience.

It's a horror visual novel/clue finder game, I don't really like visual novel games, but it's really good, and it just sucked me in.

Poor save system. Poor dialog choices. Poor controls. Long loading times between scenes.

Not sure what people see in this game.

My biggest issue with this game is its limited save system. Failing to save in the correct spot or knowing where to save can waste hours of play time or force you to restart the entire game from the beginning. None of this is explained in game. Only after playing the game and reading the story for 2 hours did I find out the hard way after closing the game to take a break thinking I had saved my progress. I read everything in story about dealing with the ghost in the mirror in the first school. But I still failed the second answer. None of the given answers felt right. I feel like maybe it's because of poorly written translation. The controls are somewhat lacking and difficult to use sometimes if you don't click in the correct spot. Using the keyboard isn't as tactile because you need to use your mouse anyways to look around. I don't like that they decided to make it completely a point and click style of game. I was expecting some sort of 3d environments to move around in. Then I wouldn't mind so much if only encounters and artwork were static screens. Then there's the issue of the extremely long wait times between every movement and action. Isn't this game just images and text? There is nothing to justify the load time when transitioning between scenes. It breaks gameplay and immersion.

A beautifully disturbing horror visual novel. An art style which brings out the terror and insanity in each character's face. The story may seems cliche but the way Death Mark adds it's unique touch will keep you engrossed and coming back for more, even if your heart doesn't want to.
