About Starship Troopers: Terran Command

About this game

Starship Troopers: Terran Command is a real-time strategy game that is set in the movies' universe and in it, players and fans alike will find something to love as they do their best in the war against the Arachnid threat. Build, develop, and control armies strategically to make sure the galaxy doesn't fall into bug hands (or...paws?).

A bugtastic campaign

The miners of the Kwalasha, the harsh desert planet, need your help against a threat that they cannot face alone: the Arachnids. As part of The Mobile Infantry, your job is to move in, take control of the planet, and cause mass genocide (extermination?) of the bugs. In this military campaign, meet unique characters, behold a unique desert terrain, and experience an all-out war against an infestation that no common exterminator could deal with.

Good strategies win wars

Careful, thought out strategic moves are your only chance against the virtually limitless numbers of enemies that the Arachnids have access to. Deploy units well to cover vital choke points, use elevation levels to outsmart the enemy, and foresee being ambushed to achieve victory. Be careful, though, as the game incorporates battle mechanics that make it realistic, such as True Line of Sight and True Line of Fire.

The big guns

There are many weapons, units, and special abilities to make use of as an M.I.commander: infantry squads armed with Morits Assault Rifles and MX-90 Fragmentation Grenades, Engineers that manage the MG turrets, barricades, minefields, Rocket Troopers with pin-point accuracy, and more. That's not all, though, as advancing the campaign unlocks more things to ensure the survival of the human race, such as E-Pulse Rifles, TAC Fighter Airstrikes, and many more developments optimised for killing anything that isn't bipedal.

The story is fun and entertaining with some good jokes. Every unit having special abilities makes it fun and rewarding to micro and with your front line units blocking Line of sight for other front liners, but not specialists you are nicely rewarded for having those in your forces without making it too much of a hassle to use them. The biggest problems come from some weird ommissions in the controls, you cannot shift queue attack commands, which combined with the "Scorpion" the tankiest enemy in the game with the longest range, the strongest attack that spawns from nests every 3 seconds means once you encounter them in the campaign telling your units to shoot the next one after waiting for the last one to die is the only thing you do anymore. This might get balance patched, but the devs insist this is all perfectly fine and how its supposed to work, so it might not. If you want something that pulls the exact same game off way better try Infested Planet, but Terran Command does have 3D graphics and a fun Starship Troopers (Movie) Universe story over it, so its not too bad of a grab for fans who are interested in that.

I have played halfway and I love the gameplay story fluff and overall tactics of this rts.

Stable campaign experience that focus more on managing a few select units where firing arcs and sightlines are vital. Less resources and difficulty spikes at later stages of the game can be a turnoff for some. Some jittering between units but so far no major bugs...except the ones you slaughter. Fun strategy game based off the movie(not the books) worth it on sale.

Worth it if you buy it on discount, its short, fun, challenging but maybe kind of lacks the strategy of other rts games out there, i'm a fan of the movie, and the old animation show, the game nails the propaganda like feel of the movie in the cut-scenes and art and in some of the missions. I'd say wait for a sale because there isn't much after the main story, also weirdly no achievements if that's your thing.
