Super Catboy

Super Catboy is a beautiful retro 90s action side-scroller with terrific music. The characters and environments in the game are very detailed. The game has a campy story with skippable cutscenes. Catboy uses melee attacks with his claws and a gun that shoots horizontally. The gun has limited ammo. Enemies drop health and ammo. There are creates in the game that also drop health and ammo too, but you'll want to conserve ammo to take out pistol wielding enemies. Catboy can walljump but you can only dash while on the ground. There are optional goals for each level, such as, defeating all the enemies and collecting all the items. Experienced players will complete or nearly complete these additional challenges on their first try. If you run out of lives, you'll be able to continue at the beginning of the level. The game automatically saves completed levels. The boss fights are varied but most of the regular enemies are pretty similar which is the game's main problem in my opinion. The placement and enemy variety on each stage isn't that interesting despite the enemies having some intelligence to them. Regular enemies are usually stalking platforms that you want to jump onto. You'll want to wait until they aren't paying attention to attack or they'll swat you away from the platform. The player rarely faces more than a few enemies at a time and players with a lot of experience with this genre will finish the game with little trouble, but it will take them time to learn to speedrun the levels perfectly. The pixel art, music, boss battles, cutscenes, and retro platformer levels are the main attractions in this game. There are bouncy pads, wall jumping, swinging ropes, climbable environmental sections like ladders, ropes, rail carts, and a motorcycle. This is a short game that provides nostalgia for early 90s games.
