I swear this game truly felt like an old NES classic. Like i had to blow on my screen to clear the dust off of nonexistent pins just to get it to load.
The controls are fluid and never gave me any trouble. The graphics are simple but still keep you interested in the surroundings in each new room. The platforming is challenging as well, but never to the point of controller breaking frustration.
It has that very Metroidvania quirk of giving you a new mobility or power up that requires you to backtrack and explore old and new areas to figure what comes next. Despite that it is still not too difficult to find your next challenge. I spent a minimal amount of time wandering aimlessly praying to stumble upon something new.
Really if you like 8-bit styled platformers this should move to the top of your list.
And even if the 8-bit part bothers you just trust me the smooth controls and creative levels are well worth pushing past that.
