About The Hunting God

About this game

The Hunting God is a short walking simulator in which you play as Nodens the hunting god and listen to what he has been through accompanied by a white wolf named Draiochta.

It is a relaxing and atmospheric experience with two choices at the end.

"My name is Nodens, and I am the god of hunting on my isles. One day when I was traveling in the Forest of Banagher, I caught a glimpse of some nearby deer. However, they were not the only beings that caught my attention. A white wolf was nearing our mutual prey when a few mortals entered my canvas."

Nodens' journey will take you from Forest of Banagher to the Mountain of Bhollain. You will come across some statues which unravel various poetic and very short stories.

With a nice story written by Simon Kolbe Strange and Stephanie Muscari, The Hunting God will make you have a relaxing experience for approximately an hour.

Save progression: The game saves your progression at the beginning of each chapter.

PS: The core aspect of this game is the atmosphere. It is recommended for those who mostly seek to experience the mood.

Maybe Bodur's games just aren't for me. While I like walking simulators and more "idle" games, I have problems with his style. The only game I enjoyed so far was "education", sadly "The Hunting God" was more like his other creations. While the world in the first part of the story looks quite pretty and alive, the other 2 chapters look very boring and bland. The forrest singing with life is swapped with a more rocky landscape in chapter 2 and a very dry looking one in chapter 3. Everything apart form the landscape is also quite ugly (character models, the horse, the other figures/ creatures you come across). The voiceactor has a nice and very fitting voice for the nordic story but he often talked very rushed and quickly, that it was sometimes very hard to understand him propperly. The story is also riddled with expressions and names from the nordic myths that it is at times hard to follow. I have read the Edda and done a bit of research in regard to the nordic gods but I had never heard of the story depicted here or any other names that were mentioned. The litttle puzzles or minigames you have to complete over the course of the game were boring and did nothing in regard to the story, while some locations that would have been interesting to mention were completely ignored. All in all quite a disappointing game and nothing I'd recommend. Especially not for jut 50 minutes of gameplay.
