About Thymesia

About this game

A kingdom once thriving on the power of alchemy enters an age of calamity. After discovering the price behind alchemy, an attempt to stop the use of it backfired. Within a few days, the kingdom was in chaos and the streets infested with monsters.

The key to understanding all of this is in Corvus’ hands, but he has lost his memory. The truth can only be found within his memories, but every time he dives back in, he only finds more secrets.

Features

  • Harness the Plague: Seize the disease from gruesome bosses and wield them as weapons. Give them a taste of their own medicine. This is the only way to survive this desolate kingdom.
  • Embrace the Raven: Shift into your raven form during battle. Throw your feathers like daggers and execute enemies with the swiftness of a raptor.
  • Fight Your Way: Upgrade and modify your basic movements and plague weapons. Build your very own play-style and prepare for the challenges in your way.
  • Shattered Memories: Recover your memories through adventures. With different choices you’ve made and items you’ve collected, you’ll get different endings. Stitch together your own truth.

Positives: + Great, fast-paced combat that allows for some diversity + Cool and interesting enemies and bosses + Fun and rewarding progression systems with meaningful talents, potions and plague weapons + Game is very convenient and allows for easy respecs and replaying of levels/bosses, can't think of any time-wasting it had + Awesome setting, atmosphere and visuals Negatives: - Camera can be very clunky without lock-on, but then using it can make some boss attacks impossible to dodge - Hit boxes can bug out, and sometimes either your or enemy attacks just do not register a hit even though they should based on your animations and positions - Balancing is all over the place, some bosses are insanely difficult to beat without certain talents and plague weapons, but then with those become a cakewalk - Way too little content, it took me less than 10h to beat while completing most of it and even replaying some levels for fun - Although the story and setting are interesting, there is way too little to them even if you collect all the lore pieces - Basic enemy variety becomes stale very quickly, and often times it's just not rewarding to fight through them It's definitely worth playing if you are into these types of games

Honestly the game is pretty well-done and feels good to play for the most part, but a few design choices can make it a bit more tedious at times than is good for it. Most of your attacks won't stagger opponents so even heavy plague weapons may hit a small enemy without interrupting them which doesn't feel like it makes sense and slows down progression through a level if you try to fight anything since you constantly have to stop and let even weak enemies have a chance to fight back before continuing attacking. Also feels like the first boss should've been a bit easier, not because he's ungodly difficult, but because he's one of the more challenging bosses in the game and being introduced to that right off the bat without knowing seems like a harsh skill gate that is just going to chase away newer players since the game really wants you to focus on parrying, which already creates a higher than average skill floor for the game. Would definitely want to see what the devs do next if they continue with this theme/genre.

Great Souls-like game. Graphics: very good - gives me dark, horror vibes. I hear people compare it to Bloodborne atmosphere. Audio: nothing too fantastic here voice-wise but the sound effects, ambience, and music all are pretty good. Gameplay: I've never played Sekiro or Lies of P before but this game has very fun combat. I believe in the other games when you deflect it doesn't actually deal damage but in this game it does. I love that you can deflect bosses, as it makes the fight more engaging to me. The game also separates the enemy HP bar into Health and Wounds which is neat, so you need to use different attacks depending on which is most important to deplete. There are also various builds that can be tried out in with the talent tree. There are also a variety of builds that you can try with the talent trees, including dodge-based or deflect-based builds. I also thought that having another special attack that you need to use feathers to counter is quite interesting, although the timing on it seems kind of strange to me as sometimes it worked for me and sometimes it didn't - I think you can't press the feather button too early or late, it has to be just right. Bosses are superbly designed - you actually have to learn their patterns in detail to time deflects and there are even some mechanics to survive certain patterns (at least for one boss this is very true). Also, you can "steal" spectral weapons from opponents, even bosses and this can lead to some interesting fights where you just discovered a new "power" and have to figure out what it does and how to use it on your own because there's no info on it yet until after the fight's over. In addition to the stolen spectral weapons you can unlock and upgrade your own permanent spectral weapon, which further increases build variety (each one also provides special effects that "scale" off different base stats). Regarding the maps, they are quite well designed - some are more straightforward than others, while others have more "secret paths". Length: the game isn't too long (most likely in the 6 to 10 hr time range, depending on skill level) but it may take awhile to bypass bosses/mini-bosses as they are quite challenging.

For a souls like game it is pretty good. Worth it if it is on sales. The thing that shines the most is the combat for sure. I think this game is my gateway drug to looking for more like it.
