About Townsmen - A Kingdom Rebuilt

About this game

Welcome, your Highness! A vast land awaits your settlers and is ready to be colonized. Send your architects and builders to plan and construct a city. But also send your craftsmen, to cut some wood and to mine ore. Make sure your fields are on fertile grounds, to get all the food for your hungry subjects! Townsmen – A Kingdom Rebuilt hands the crown to you: Guide your people from their first steps in a small village to a massive medieval metropolis with thousands of inhabitants.

Overcome the challenges that lie ahead. Your citizens have various needs in order to stay happy. And you have to keep them happy, to keep the tax coins rolling which you need to build even more. Beware, as there are many things in the world that will disturb happiness: Seasons will change the demand for certain goods – more water is needed during summer, and more clothes in winter. Catastrophes may hit your prospering city, the plague, a large fire or an avalanche won’t make anyone happy nor will a bandit attack!

A huge variety of houses to build and many different jobs for your subjects will keep you busy. The armoury will produce weapons for your soldiers, to keep your citizens safe from bandits. The bakery or the butcher’s workshop will provide food, the monastery, the juice manufacturer and the vineyard will bring the drinks – and everything can be bought at the marketplace! Make sure to have an eye on the daily routines of your people – besides jobs & food, they also need a place for recreation like a park, houses to live and entertain in the jousting grounds or the tavern!

Each of your deeds is meaningful: If you order your folks to build a house, if you send them to a new job – everything will reward you with experience points. This progression system will allow you to research techniques that for example increase the amount of taxes you get or make your watchtowers more efficient. In every map, you play!

I love, love, love this game! I am mostly playing this for nostalgia, though, as I played the game on my phone excessively when I was younger. The graphics are simple and nice, as are music and the levels. There are quite a lot of scenarios you can play, in addition to free play on different maps. I personally love the managing aspect here, it's not micromanaging but rather a nice bit control over the community (taxes etc). What I personally really enjoy is that there are peaceful levels without bandits you have to fight and said levels with enemies. All that being said, I have to admit that I think 20 bucks for the game is way too much, especially since the DLC is fairly pricy as well (without adding too much new content to the game). My recommendation is picking this up on sale if you are interested.

The game itself isn't too bad but its very obvious that the game is a mobile port. Get this game cheaply if at all.

Decent RTS with dated graphics but generally fun mechanics.

Decent Tactics Game

Generally its "OK". It follows the RTS model closest to that of Settlers. The graphics are quite dated, and this is really the worst part. The art is ok, but they lack the textures and fully rendered areas like roads and walls that don't flow together in the proper way. The strategy was decent and generally it was fun to play. It's like a classic RTS and if you would like that nostalgia but something new, this might scratch that itch.

Resource and town management surviving disasters

Matej
The last tutorial mission is pretty hard but it's about perfecting the balance. The game strongly reminds me of Knights & Merchants but the story is a bit dull. Combat is nothing interesting, the resource management and town happiness coupled with its expansion is what makes this game a good time waster. It isn't really punishing, it just requires patience as you keep minimizing damage that disasters cause while living through harsh winter, balancing the workers from place to place.

Addictive, but challenging.

A like this RTS game has it has a tutorial section on everything and you can play this at your own speed. Addictive, but does get trickier later on in the game.
