About Train Life: A Railway Simulator

About this game

For the first time in a railway simulator, you are the driver and the company manager!

TAKE THE CONTROL OF YOUR TRAIN AND TRAVEL TO EUROPE

Drive your passengers or goods across 10 countries and explore the countryside, towns, forests, and mountains of Europe from your cab. Each locomotive has its own characteristics (power, braking, etc.), which you need to learn to control expertly while following the railway signs and adapting to the weather conditions.

BECOME A TRUE RAILWAY ENTREPRENEUR

As well as driving trains, you need to operate a successful company. Create your own company; buy and maintain your trains; hire conductors and give them new contracts; explore new routes, and optimize your Passenger and Freight activities. Make the right choices to earn money and grow your business!

KEY FEATURES

  • Drive faithfully reproduced iconic trains, such as the ICE 3, ICE 4, and NEWAG Griffin
  • Create and customize your own trains, from their outer appearance to your cab interior
  • Manage your company: hire conductors, choose contracts, build your network, and maintain your locomotives to prevent breakdowns and emergency repairs
  • Travel 10,000 kilometers of track through the towns and countrysides of Eastern Europe, Western Europe, and the Alps region

  • Follow the railway signage while adapting to the switches and managing speed, track changes, braking distances, station arrivals, and the opening and closing of doors
  • Handle unexpected situations, such as a tree on the line, snow build-up on the tracks, or another train on your track
  • Adapt your driving to the weather conditions and the time of day to prevent accidents, day and night, through downpours and blizzards!

Loving the game, finding it difficult because first purchaser of a SIM Train and Fanatical gave the opportunity to purchase without breaking the bank. Anyone who loves trains this would be a great experience. Tons of further potential for this game in the future.

It is a nice game that has more an arcade feel as is now, although in some areas it is more of a simulation than "simulators" like Train Sim World 2. The overall look is fine, it does not blow your mind but it does its job. It is still in early access, so things are bound to change, but so far it is fun to play. One thing you will find strange is that you need to call in before getting in the station, and set the correct path to the correct platform while you drive in a location. There is no automated way at the moment so you have to do it yourself. There are passenger and freight "missions"; you basically run your own transport company so you can decide what to transport, from where to start and expand your "empire" by buying more carriages and locos. Very nice game, which promise to be great once completed.

Early access game with potential, plagued by manageable bugs

I would call Train Life a "tycoon simulator". The game balances just enough simulation elements with the core gameplay mechanic of growing your transportation company. Many call it "the Euro Truck of trains", and they're right—running your business feels very much like running the trucking company you start in SCS Software's truck sims. As an Early Access title, there most certainly are areas for improvement. Most of these have been confirmed as known issues and/or are slated for fixes in upcoming updates. * AI trains and signaling don't behave as expected (known issue, AI disabled until pathing can be fixed) * GPS navigation switches tracks unnecessarily (planned fixes to come) * Locomotive upgrades aren't clear (neither effects nor applicability to your current vehicle) * Severe frame-rate drops in many cases (optimization will be a constant battle, as with any game) * Taking multiple jobs at a time can cause problems (known issue) * Saving and loading the game does not put the player back exactly where they were * Saving and loading the game can cause current delivery jobs to be lost or malfunction However, even taking into account the game's current flaws, it has a TON of potential and I've already spent far too long in it after only a week. As long as the fixes outnumber the new bugs, I'm going to be a happy player for quite a while.
