Velocity Noodle

Velocity Noodle is a precision platformer with cyberpunk pixel-art and music. The main characters interact and new conversations between them will appear as the game progresses. It isn't too difficult to go through most of the normal levels and find the hidden item in each one, but trying to beat par times for the gold trophies can be. There are a few levels where you are chased by a merciless enemy. The enemy will stay near you no matter how fast you move through the level, and this caused me annoyance and frustration. Thankfully, the enemy is removed from that particular level after beating it for the first time. The navigation through the levels can be tricky. There is a boost button that is used to toggle running on, air dashes, and aid in sliding under obstacles. The game has its own quirks like you can't slide while right next to the object you want to slide under. You have to start sliding before touching it. There are verticle escalators where you have to press jump near their start if you want to jump from them when you reach the top. They will fling you up in the air without jumping. There are places on the maps where you can use your sword like a grappling hook. You have to wait for the sword to return to you after throwing it. You have to land on a horizontal platform or bouncy pad before you can double jump again. Hard levels introduce more level mechanics to master like enabling switches, and using blowing wind to transverse the level. After getting used to the game's quirks, it is possible to collect gold trophies. It is very satisfying to get a gold trophy by beating the par time on a particular level!

Velocity Noodle managed to be a wonderful platformer that offers enjoyable gameplay within the genre. While lacking a core story, the charming visuals and music all made for an immersive retro experience.
