Good Game if you already finished XCOM and want more.

Recommend only if you have played other turn base squad strategy games. Only if you played XCOM2 first and then want more. This is not even close to being XCOM, but much better than most games in this category. It takes some time to get into it, but once your marines start levelling up it becomes engaging. Hard, engaging, and fair. A few warnings. I absolutely hate the tutorial which last like 1 hour, non skipable. It feels like you are playing a freemium game: click this and only this to continue. "Good, you are a brilliant commander" Now click in this flashy or nothing will happen. "You are amazing".... Yes, get ready for one hour of that before you get to actually play the game. Also during the tutorial there is part where you HAVE to move to this one square causing the enemy to get an attack of opportunity, and the game is not super clear where you have to move because the entire screen is flashing. You are going to waste a lot of time. You have to wait for the animation and movement of every squad member to finish before you can do anything. Drives me insane. Story missions are great, but in between there is a bunch of mandatory search and destroy missions. Kind of boring. Your guys are close combat, and there are a lot of enemies with much longer range. You will get hammered before you adapt; very unique gameplay. Finally, several times I find my self thinking I would rather play XCOM than this, but I already played the hell out of XCOM. If you are in the same boat: Good Game.

I was fully prepared to love this game, being a huge XCOM and 40k fan, but ended up disappointed. Core mechanics are poorly explained (I had to figure out that APs reset when you trigger a new pod, and still don't know what determines whether or not they take an action). The UI is a mess, upgrades are a pain to navigate, the enemy variety is low, cutscenes are goofy, and the Grey Knights are so dull as a protagonist faction. I can only grind through 2-3 missions in a session before getting too bored with it, which was never an issue in XCOM. At least I'm not 'one-more-turn'-ing into the small hours again. I think if I wasn't such a fan of turn based games, and so keen to get my money's worth, I wouldn't bother.

A good tactics game with Warhammer 40k lore casually implemented. The game play drives you to move aggressively or have your units chipped to death by the swarms of enemies that get thrown at you.

I have been looking for something to follow up XCOM and this came out of nowhere. I love the 40k universe so I may be biased, but I really like this game. I like that the fact that you can quickly get into this game, customize your squad and get into combat. There's no BS spreadsheet micro-managing of ammo and guns like in Phoenix Point. The game is great and I recommend it.

PROS: Xcom with grey knights... excellent... just what I wanted. Work on steam deck with tweaking. Excellent loop gameplay Extremely challenging or forgiving. Difficulty is perfect. CONS: Mecanics are not explained thoroughly Maps could be more varied

Awesome xcom/gears tactics like turn based game with a WH40K skin some models/graphics look a bit dated but dont really matter ina game like this and wish the UI did look so ugly. But overall a very fun game and challenging.

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters isn't perfect but it's fun and has a ton of heart and atmosphere. Overall the game is engaging, immersive and, as I mentioned above, fun. If you're a fan of X-Com and Warhammer 40K in general than this game is for you. The art direction is great, the lore is on point and the campaign is interesting and full of twists and turns that do the writers a lot of credit. I should mention that the designers opted out of the RNG combat model used in X-Com. Every action's outcome is predetermined and you can see what that outcome will be before selecting the action you want, no more missing at point blank range. The game has a lot of re-playability and I can see myself playing it a second time. Definitely a solid game to have fun!
