I've been playing survival horror games since 2008 when I first played the Remake of Resident Evil on the game cube. Throughout the years I've played a lot of good and bad titles in the genre and my favorites all have one thing in common, Asian folklore. The game is very visually pleasing and the gameplay is enjoyable without the feeling of clunky controls that some others in this genre have. It's got some good frights as well as some parts that made me laugh. I've yet to finish the game but so far I'm loving the story and characters.

The charactermodels are great and I like the artstyle. English Dub isn't bad either. But gameplay is kinda bland especially compared to other games of the same genre

White Day is a first person korean horror survival game, sort of like Fatal Frame and even DreadOut. You play as charming, yet not very talkative, transfer student Hee-Min Lee on the day before White Day (Basically Valentines Day). What was a simple premise such as giving the girl you like a box of candy, quickly turned into a dark and twisted night of horror. Fighting is no solution, all you can do is run and hide. Now ever since Clock Tower or games like Amnesia, people were all over this sort of gameplay mechanic of running instead of shooting everything, and many still love that, but for some reason this game gets a lot of unreasonable hate. Everyone says the Janitors (one of the main enemies of the game) are stupidly difficult to avoid, but that is not true at all. Like every enemy in every game, they have a pattern, they have weknesses and the difficulty also plays an important role in this. On Hell they can hear a fly fart in the other building, while on very easy they couldnt even hear you if you shout directly into their ears. And yes, it may be a little unbalanced or unfair sometimes, yet still, play it on easy first, know the tricks, save frequently and be patient just as you would be in real life or any other game. It really isnt that difficult if you get used to it. Some tips: - Doors slow them down such as stairs - Keep the main lights off, use your lighter - Dont run if you KNOW he is near you - Listen to his whistling and keychain - Hide behind thing or the toilet - Close doors to rooms but keep the ones in the hall open if you arent in it, they will close it on their way through, showing you they are nearby - Be patient - Cutscenes or characters with you will reset or remove them for the time being. They also wont respawn, untill you pick up the next token. If you are patient and take your time to fully explore and enjoy the game, the story and every tiny little secret in this game is more than worth your time. Even with its tiny flaws, its still a great game with a high replay value. The only thing I dont like about the game, is the fact you have to pay for each aditional outfit, but this is optional.

Despite reading a number of mixed reviews before starting the game, I myself really enjoyed White day. Pros: -I thought it had a good horror atmosphere, really nice environment design, good graphics and puzzle difficulty. -I really liked the implementation of a number of Korean ghosts and bits of folklore. Cons: -The story and the way it was implemented was a little strangely done, but not difficult to follow. -Some dialogue options felt like they weren't translated accurately: I would say something I thought was reasonable and a character would get angry - (Dialogue options sometimes made me choose between being rude or sounding subservient with no in-between.) -One puzzle was in characters with no translation, I spent an hour wandering before looking up a walkthrough that told me I needed to know basic Chinese to understand it. (Chinese, not Korean, when it's a Korean game.) I've never played the original so I can't compare, but I enjoyed this version. There are other jarring issues I haven't talked about but I mentioned a few things that stood out to me personally. Overall I enjoyed the horror game experience White day offered.
