Despite having a variety of what seems to be fairly monotonous tasks that often get criticism in other open-world titles, JC3 manages to shy away from that criticism by ensuring it's gameplay loop is consistently fun as you progress throughout the game & unlock more tools, gadgets and upgrades to play with.
From zooming around the map with the wingsuit, raining explosive death down whilst gliding from your parachute, zipping into enemies to spartan kick them in the face or going balls to wall mental with all manner of explosive ordinance and just, well, blowing stuff up, the game somehow manages to stay enjoyable throughout despite that large map size and typical outpost-clear gameplay we've seen time and time again. The tether shouldn't be forgotten either, I've had a variety of comical situations due to that thing. Did I mention that you can strap rocket boosters to a cow's rear end, hear Rico laugh and then watch in glee as it flies off liked a popped balloon at a kid's birthday party?
All of that is enhanced by the XXL edition, which adds a bunch of cool stuff to play with. The wingsuit upgrade is fantastic and whilst at first I thought it could ruin the traversal for me by being a bit too easy, there are times where the grapple still has it's place during a wingsuit ride.
It's fun, ridiculously so just like it's predecessor and I find myself returning to the sandbox to wind down and cause some mayhem after a long day.
[Running on a GTX 1650 GDDR6, Ryzen 3100, 2x8GB 2666MHZ RAM, I was able to play the game on max settings @ 1080p staying at / going above 60fps in most situations, with heavier drops into the 40s when more carnage is happening. It was a fairly pleasant experience performance wise]
