The expansions for Midnight Suns are... short. Two to three standard length missions a piece, at least unless Storm happens to be very different. To some degree, I get that, the base game hasn't sold well despite being pretty good (though performance issues and the general divisiveness of the social aspects are understandably going to have an effect there), so I don't think anyone should be expecting a massive budget for expansions. Yet, the content still feels a bit sparse. So if you're looking for story alone, you won't find much here. A couple of hours total across the entire combined DLC set. However, I think the DLC is more interested in providing new characters with some new playstyle gimmicks that generally revolve around how your character abilities relate to the amount of cards played (there's also a new abbey training upgrade, but that's a minimal addition). Deadpool gains power on KOs and loses it on damage, Venom loses power for each card he plays a turn, Morbius (and doesn't that inclusion feel almost as if Sony was somehow able to mandate it?) gains power after a set amount of card plays and loses it if he loses his armour akin to Captain Marvel's Go Binary. These all provide more variety to the rest of the game, even if none of them feel particularly killer in terms of how fun they are to play as. There's also more dialogue and additional hangouts for those people that are particularly invested in the 'hang out with superheroes' element. The relative shortness of the actual story missions for the characters is rather disappointing, and I'm unsure if the Storm DLC will even resolve the Vampyre threat or not... but there's still content here. It's definitely a tough sell at the base, non-sale, price tag - in fact I'd say it plain isn't worth it. But on sale, for those deeply invested in the game it provides a new roster of heroes and a little bit more story to introduce them along with a few new enemies. My main criticism beyond wanting more story missions is probably just that Deadpool's (played by Nolan North, reprising the role from the 2013 videogame) writing leans him somewhat into annoying territory and the joke of the other characters also being annoyed by him doesn't really defuse that for me. Both zany characters and very self-aware ones are a tightrobe for writers to juggle in order not to become obnoxious, and I don't think Midnight Suns's writing team lands it. On sale, fans of the base game will want this if they're in it for...
