About Maize

About this game

Maize is a first-person adventure game about what happens when two scientists misinterpret a memo from the U.S. Government and create sentient corn. And that last sentence is pretty much the least ridiculous thing about the game.

Explore an abandoned farm and a not-so-abandoned underground research facility as you uncover the mysteries around Maize, and possibly learn a bit about yourself along the way. Or maybe not.

With a colourful cast of characters and an absolutely absurd world, Maize offers up a unique experience that keeps the surprises coming. Seriously, they’re everywhere.

Features

  • Immerse yourself and explore Maize’s fully-realized environment, featuring a cornucopia of areas to explore (see what we did there?)
  • Solve environmental puzzles that get more and more absurd the further you delve into the adventure
  • Uncover the secrets of Maize’s world, as you try and figure out what it is the corn really want, aside from a very good nap
  • Meet some friends and enemies along the way, which include a very small grumpy Russian robot bear and an unhinged corn stalk who’s a bit of a jerk

Oh wow, what a wild ride! I got this game as a joke more or less because i enjoy walking sims and this game looked like such a whacky game that I just had to try it! The game is basically a wlaking sim with little puzzle elements in it. Usually these "collect things here", "bring it there" kinda games are absolutely not what i enjoy playing, but Maize really implemented these little fetch quests nicely, without too much back and forth or abstruse solutions. Even if you didn't immediately know what you are supposed to do, it doesn't take too long to figure it out, which is really nice. The game also often gives you tips in a very dry humour/ sarcastic way. The story, while nothing too exciting, is very unique and fun to explore. Some things are very generic and predictable, while others take you by complete surprise. I can really recommend this game, I had a blast and basically played it in one go. Seeing that the playtime is 4-5 hours tho, it might be best to get it on sale.

A great execution! The studio knew what they wanted to deliver and delivered exactly that. The humour may fall flot for some, but it is not trashy and is enitrely consistent(as the game itself) if you pay enough attention. I only dislike that there are places where you can miss the humour(a.k.a. a sign for a tea party before being a major part of it) and there is one spot in one of to co-executive office's where you can get stuck by accident, but I blame the engine for this one as far as hit boxes go. The atmosphere is great, great visuals, great sound that puts you in a relaxing mood. The story makes sense, the great reveal towards the end is funny and your companion Vladdy despite being sometimes repetitive, manages to steal the show quite a few times, especially towards the end. Overall, the team knew what they wanted to do and did just that! If you expect very challenging puzzles, this won't happen, but if you are not careful enough you could be left wondering about. Once you get how things work(which is not hard to graps after the first half an hour - hour tops), you shouldn't have troubles. I finished the game in 4.3 hours(according to Steam), which can feel like a steep price if you pay it's current Steam price(19,99$), but one could argue that they are well spent(Got it on a bundle on here tho, so even greater value)! Missing 7 collectibles on my first go hurts, but I can see myself coming back to it both to replay and to find them. I don't remember any other game making me look so hard for rocks, just to see their name and some info. Overall, quite the enjoyable experience, which is funny, does not want you to take it too seriously and delivers well with that promise! If you don't like in the first hour, you won't like it after! Still heavily recommend, an enjoyable experience!
