Why get MGS Delta Deluxe Edition?

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Digital Deluxe – What's Included

Konami is diving deep into nostalgia with Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, bringing a stealth classic back into the spotlight nearly two decades after it first captured gamers' hearts. With the Digital Deluxe Edition now available to pre-order, fans new and old are eager to see exactly what awaits them when they return to Naked Snake's jungle escapades.

The stealth genre wouldn't be quite the same without Hideo Kojima's original vision, and following Konami's success with Silent Hill 2’s remake, there's genuine hope they'll keep that vision alive and kicking.

As someone who first experienced Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater upon its release in 2004, I vividly recall hours spent meticulously blending into jungle terrain and enduring the charm-infused annoyance of repeatedly hopping through menus to patch up Snake’s injuries and switch camouflage patterns. Ah, simpler times indeed.

So what's actually included in the Digital Deluxe Edition? Alongside the base game of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, you also get the Sneaking DLC pack, which includes:

  • Uniform: Battle Dress (PW ver.) – For those who prefer tactical gear.
  • Uniform: Sneaking Suit (PW ver.) – Optimal stealth performance.
  • Uniform: Crocodile Suit – Perfectly absurd, incredibly useful.
  • Uniform: Naked (Woodland) – Minimalist jungle attire.
  • Uniform: Naked (Ammunition Belt) – Bare essentials, literally.
  • Uniform: Gold – Subtlety be damned; style takes priority.
  • Face: Glasses – Tactical eyewear for a sharper look.
  • Face: Sunglasses – Because sneaking can be stylish.
  • Equipment: Kerotan Mask – Classic mascot, questionable stealth effectiveness.
  • Equipment: GA-KO Mask – Another playful nod to long-time fans.

Pre-order Bonus Includes:

  • Uniform: White Tuxedo (also unlockable via standard gameplay progression)
  • 48-hour advanced access (an absolute treat for eager PC players desperate to stealth their way into the jungle before everyone else)

Items like the White Tuxedo are accessible through regular gameplay, ensuring no one feels shortchanged if you opt out of pre-ordering - but honestly, who wants to wait?

The joy of Snake Eater wasn't just in sneaking past unsuspecting guards; it was in the quirky details, the unforgettable boss fights that cleverly interacted with the game mechanics, and the absurdly long ladder sequence elevated to legendary status thanks to Cynthia Harrell’s hauntingly beautiful theme song. I’m genuinely curious (and cautiously optimistic) to see how these iconic moments translate into the modern era.

Konami’s modernization effort promises enhanced visuals and refined mechanics, likely reducing the original’s infamous menu-hopping while preserving the stealth tension fans adore. While initial playthroughs will undoubtedly benefit from these new DLC uniforms—each offering unique tactical benefits—true replayability rests on potential unlockables and hopefully a robust New Game Plus, something the original game absolutely nailed.

I'm especially thrilled about the confirmed return of Snake vs. Monkey. PC and PlayStation players, rejoice! Snake chasing down monkeys wearing adorable sirens feels exactly as absurd and delightful as it did two decades ago. Xbox players, unfortunately, will miss out due to Sony’s tight grip on the Ape Escape IP.

Another exciting revival is Metal Gear Online, the franchise’s beloved competitive multiplayer mode, which fittingly debuted alongside MGS3. This was stealth action on a whole new level, pitting sneaky enthusiasts against each other online for the first time. The prospect of revisiting it, improved and modernized, is almost too good to resist.

Ultimately, the Digital Deluxe Edition is undeniably enticing. It's a perfect blend of practical gameplay enhancements and collectible allure, especially for camo completionists. And while it might seem indulgent to some, as a devoted fan, settling for anything less simply isn’t an option.
