Battle Axe is a top-down hack-and-slash title with arcade in its roots! Play throughout a pixelated campaign alone or with a friend as you set out in the land of Mercia to free it from the tyrannical clutches of Etheldred! Will you take the challenge to stop Etheldred, or will you never return, as many others before you?
Free Mercia
Mercia has been controlled by a tyrannical, all-powerful sorceress named Etehldred for as long as you can remember. Every couple of years, the evil witch sends out an army to the south to handpick civilians to bring into servitude. With the latest recruitment drawing in and desperation filling the land, the kingdom sent a call to action in search of a champion that could free Mercia from Etheldred.
Spend Gold to Grow Stronger
Slay foes on your journey to Etheldred's spire to gain gold and spend them in Ælfwyn's store! Get numerous upgrades, including weapon upgrades, consumables, and powerups, to help you on your journey to free Mercia
The Champions of Mercia
Take control of three heroes that seek to defeat Etheldred and save Mercia from her. Pick between Fae the Elf, Iolo the Druid, and Rooney the Marauder, each one with their own specific weapons and abilities to take down foes on your journey! Use Fae's quick blades, Iolo's sorcery, and Rooney's deadly cannon to dispatch of enemies as you draw ever closer to the spiral!
Survive the Journey
Select a hero and battle through different levels, as you'll face the final boss of each region. Each guardian is fiercely loyal to Etheldred, so you'll have to battle through all of her minions in order to advance!
A Band of Heroes
You don't need to try to free Mercia on your own, as you'll be able to take a friend in a split-screen co-op mode where each of you will take control of a character and battle foes together! Fight back against Etheldred and free Mercia in a party.
Post-game Content
Once the adventure is over, you'll have the opportunity to play through even more! Explore the Arcade, Infinite, and even New Game+ modes for even more content, even after the credits have rolled!

It hits all the faux-retro buttons and does a better job than usual at making the younger gamer get a feeling for how dope these games were in the movie theater arcade but there's all sorts of flaws from the old and new school of game design. I get hiding the rescues behind trees but the enemies? I get having all sorts of blowing leaves and birds on the screen but they get in the way of projectiles. It might be tough but not totally unfair if you're not split-second reacting to every enemy that attacks with zero animation to prepare you but when they can get two hits quick or when some attacks come from off-screen, that's a different kind of BS. Camera is too close. Etc. There's Wizard Fire stupid and then there's a game that's made to be just as much a pain but without the motivation to suck in your quarters behind it. Get it at way less than the typical 7.50 sale point.
