About Blazing Chrome

About this game

In Blazing Chrome, machines rule the world and the few humans left are on the edge of total extermination, lacking power, prestige or status among their metal and circuits overlords. Bring your best pal and kick some metal butts to free the humankind while enjoying a classic run’n’gun, fully loaded with action and exciting fights!

Humans are expendable after an AI controlled robot army take over the world. They survive in hiding while their hunters rule the surface. When a small rebel group gets an intel about a big AI's power plant, the machines strike their camp before they can organize an attack. A small group of rebels escape and go in a suicide mission to destroy this power plant. Choose to play as Mavra, a super badass human resistance soldier, or Doyle, the equally groovy and deadly insurgent robot. This suicide mission will result in heavy casualties and a ton of lock-and-load fast-paced action where scraping robots and blazing chrome with your powerful weapons is the only thing standing between you and your freedom.

Dash through 5 apocalyptic environments with hundred of robots-enemies to blow to pieces. Blast your way through the enemy lines and and try to defeat a bunch of mechanical bosses with using hoverbikes, huge armors and a whole arsenal of kick-ass weapons.

Blazing Chrome offers a lot of features in the legacy of classic run’n’gun games:

● Local Co-op Gameplay
● 16-bits post-apocalyptic environments
● Classic fast-paced run-and-gun experience
● Epic boss battles and crazy lot minibosses fights
● Genuine arcade feel
● Motorcycle and jetpack action
● Rad pixel art

I REALLY do love it. Though there was one major frustrating thing for me.....the way you dodge roll in this game causes so many unwanted errors that get you kill. The devs spoke of a "type B" control scheme or more being added to the game. It IS in the game but greyed out and unchangeable. It's been 2 years since that post. I would have played this game for far longer if not for that weird omission. Controllers these days have so many buttons.....let us use them plz.

A Contra by any other name...

Ever sit there and wonder... "Huh.. why isn't Konami making more 2D Contra sequels?" if so.. this game will do it for you. It is unapologetically influenced by Contra III and Hard Corps but still manages to have an identity of its own. My biggest complaint would be I wasn't blown away by the weapon selection, but I respect that they weren't trying to COMPLETELY copy Contra. Buy it!

Great experience, it's very similar to Contra, but faster paced, the music and the graphic quality are fantastic, give it a try if you like to immerse yourself in nostalgia.

Blazing Chrome is an homage to the classic Sega Genesis game Contra: Hard Corps, but with original characters and content. It has similar gameplay, graphics, sound, and music, with the same brutal difficulty. It also has Steam Remote Play, so you can play with a friend using a single copy, as if you were sitting on the same couch together. It's not quite as polished as Contra, and feels little rough in places, but it's worth grabbing when it's on sale or if you're a big fan of the genre.

It's a great, old-style game. Fantastic pixel-art visuals, polished gameplay. For old gamers it's a gem, for new players it's a very good action game.

My Video Review can be found here: https://youtu.be/YTk-pdfe7o4 How was it for me with Blazing Chrome? Was it love or hate? In the beginning I was really enjoying the game thanks to the retro post-apocalyptic atmosphere, two characters that you can choose from (even though the gameplay is the same for both of them), frenetic action with variable robotic enemies, system of support bots, use of vehicles and nice audiovisual side. However, as the time went by I started to enjoy the game less and less. The punishing gameplay based on losing everything everytime you get hit, non existing system of checkpoints making you repeat the same long sequences again and again and not as responsive controls as you would need in such frenetic action make the game painful for me rather than enjoyable. Along with a low variety of weapons, frequent and irritating boss battles and no difference between the two main characters the negative impressions unfortunately prevail. It is a shame especially because the game has local co-op so with more reasonable difficulty it would be suitable for family playing. Pros: - atmosphere - two main characters - variable enemies - support bots - vehicles - audiovisual side Cons: - punishing gameplay - absence of proper checkpoints - controls - weapons variety - boss battles There are for sure hardcore players that might enjoy this game but it is not suitable for me and I think for most of the fellow Gaming Fathers as well. I am therefore giving Blazing Chrome Thumbs Down and VideoGaming Father’s Index 5 out of 10 - not recommended.
