About the Game

For the very first time on PC, play through Jin Sakai’s journey and discover the complete Ghost of Tsushima experience in this Director’s Cut.

In the late 13th century, the Mongol empire has laid waste to entire nations along their campaign to conquer the East. Tsushima Island is all that stands between mainland Japan and a massive Mongol invasion fleet led by the ruthless and cunning general, Khotun Khan.

As the island burns in the wake of the first wave of the Mongol assault, courageous samurai warrior Jin Sakai stands resolute. As one of the last surviving members of his clan, Jin is resolved to do whatever it takes, at any cost, to protect his people and reclaim his home. He must set aside the traditions that have shaped him as a warrior to forge a new path, the path of the Ghost, and wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Tsushima.

Ghost of Tsushima: Open-World Samurai Epic That Actually Respects Your Time Ghost of Tsushima isn’t trying to be Sekiro or Nioh, so if you go in expecting a punishing “Souls-like,” you’ll probably be surprised. What it is —and what it does incredibly well—is deliver a grounded samurai story wrapped in some of the most cinematic visuals you’ll ever see in a game. Think “playable Kurosawa film,” but without feeling like a gimmick. You play as Jin, a young samurai caught between honoring tradition and doing whatever it takes to save his people from the Mongol invasion. It’s familiar territory, sure, but the performances and writing make it hit harder than expected. Even early on, the story feels focused and polished in a way a lot of open-world games don’t. Gameplay-wise, it’s shockingly smooth. You can climb, sneak, duel, ride across huge fields, or take a dip in a hot spring, and the game just… lets you. Exploration feels natural, missions pop up from rumors and conversations instead of constant pop-up spam, and the mix of story quests, side missions, and mythic tales keeps everything fresh. Combat is where it really shines. Standoffs feel epic, duels look ripped straight out of a movie, and the stance system gives every fight weight. There’s plenty of progression too—new skills, stances, armor upgrades—but it never overwhelms you. And the presentation? Gorgeous. The landscapes, the weather, the sound design, the music—it all works together to make Tsushima feel alive. Even the photo mode feels like something an actual filmmaker would use. It’s not perfect. The camera can be annoying, horseback movement can get choppy, and loadouts would’ve been nice. But honestly, the overall experience is so strong that these quirks don’t drag it down much. Ghost of Tsushima nails what it sets out to do. It’s cinematic, fun to explore, satisfying to fight through, and packed with heart. If you want an open-world samurai game that respects your time and looks incredible doing it, this is absolutely worth playing.
