You arrive home after a year abroad. You expect your family to greet you, but the house is empty. Something's not right. Where is everyone? And what's happened here? Unravel the mystery for yourself in Gone Home, a story exploration game from The Fullbright Company.

Gone Home is an interactive exploration simulator. Interrogate every detail of a seemingly normal house to discover the story of the people who live there. Open any drawer and door. Pick up objects and examine them to discover clues. Uncover the events of one family's lives by investigating what they've left behind.

Go Home Again.

Key Features:

  • A Personal Story: Created by veterans of the BioShock series and the story team behind Minerva's Den, Gone Home offers the rich, nuanced details of one family's struggles to deal with uncertainty, heartache, and change.
  • An Immersive Place: Return to the 1990s by visiting a home where every detail has been carefully recreated, and the sounds of a rainstorm outside wrap you in the experience.
  • No Combat, No Puzzles: Gone Home is a nonviolent and puzzle-free experience, inviting you to play at your own pace without getting attacked, stuck, or frustrated. This house wants you to explore it.
  • Fully Interactive Investigation: Discover what's happened to the Greenbriars by examining a house full of the family's personal possessions, and the notes and letters they've left behind. Use your powers of observation to piece together a story that unfolds as you explore.

Gone Home is a first-person, story-driven, exploration game that puts the playing in the role of Kaitlin -- an older sister returning home from studying abroad to a family home wrought with secrets and controversy. I really enjoyed exploring the house and uncovering it's secrets and hidden passageways. The story of the younger sister, Sam, was incredibly touching and well-voiced. The game environment was very thoughtfully assembled, which made the home feel lived in and connected to the story. I definitely recommend picking this one up.

So I believe part of my negative review here is my own fault. As a twitch Streamer I do first play through blindly so we learn whats going on as it happens. I read the basic summary 3 to 4 sentences and then start the game. On That Note This is just a real basic walking simulator. Just telling a story as you go along. No real shocking moments or anything just a plain story. I played games like this before and they normally add something in there to keep the audience to their seat type thing but nah it was just a basic story without giving anything away. I thought at one point it was going to be a lot more but no just a basic story. Even though in these types of games the story is everything lets review everything else. you are able to interact with the world many different ways in the house moving a lot of extra random items that just aren't needed. The layout it self was really good but makes you feel it could have been used for so much more of a game. So I am not saying this game is bad for everyone.... Don't Get me wrong. But It just wasn't my cup of tea as I came in expecting the wrong thing. I came in expecting maybe a horror or thriller story mixed with love but it was just a plain love story. (Like that romance movie your significant other makes you watch and not even one thing goes boom! omg wtf? lol)

Very cool game. I loved Dear Esther and was recommended this one. A playthrough does not take too much time, maybe 2-3 hours depending on how toroughly you search the house. The story is nicely presented and really made me feel for the character. some achievements were borken for me, sadly and after not even 4 hours there is nothing more to do in the game.

Do you want a game where you hear some brat tell you about *her*story and how hard her life was in patriarchal society? If you somehow answered yes: "emergahd, you should totally, like, buyy this gameee *" *(wait a bit for the discount to pass, so you can better sponsor the corrupt part of the industry that had lead to the promotion of this excuse of a game)

regardless of what dudebros back when this game originally came out had to say of it, this game is a taut thriller with an intriguing tale of love lost.

A sweet, cosy game with a compelling story. Definitely worth the price.

When this game came out reviewers across the board were raving about how groundbreaking it was and how refreshing etc. And that simply isn't true. I think they did it a great disservice by severely overhyping it to the point that it could never live up to their words. It's a puzzle/adventure game set in a house about a girl who comes home to find the place empty. As you uncover the secrets of the house you unravel the story of what your sister has been going through in your absence. It's a sweet, compelling and well paced story with enough of a puzzle element to not feel like a walking simulator. The art is simple but pleasant and the storm outside the house creates a creepy kind of ambience. It's hard to say much more without spoiling things, so I'll wrap up by saying that this is the perfect game for a lazy sunday afternoon with a few cups of tea.

I had some fun with this game. The mystery/horror feel starts falling apart before too long, but I liked the details, setting, and 90s-kid vibe all the same. Don't go in expecting action, adventure, or really much of anything other than a story. This is basically just a piece-by-piece biopsy of a young woman's life, feelings, family, and decisions. I did personally care about the story, but some people will probably find it long-winded and pointless.

(Spoilers) The best horror game that's actually about your sister being a lesbian and isn't a horror game. 10/10
