About Judgment

About this game

Judgment is a videogame by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio that puts you in the shoes of a private investigator in Japan.

Take The Law Into Your Own Hands

With Judgment, the line between right and wrong becomes blurred as you take on the role of disgraced lawyer-turned-private detective Takayuki Yagami. In this thrilling videogame, it's up to you to uncover the truth – even if it means skirting on breaking the law yourself.

Make Friends in Kamurochō

The open world city of Kamurochō might be a dangerous place and one wrong move could cost you your life, but that doesn’t mean Yagami is without friends. Joined by his colleague Masaharu Kaito and a large cast of colourful characters, he has to make ends meet somehow while investigating the larger ongoing mystery. So, Yagami will have to take on side cases to earn money, but can he also earn his clients friendship?

More Than Yakuza

Operating from within the law may be new to fans of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, but Yagami has ties to the Matsugane yakuza family that keep them close. At least he can defend himself with multiple fighting styles, and isn’t without tricks of his own to stay hidden. With its many twists and turns, Judgment is sure to keep you guessing until the very end.

This game has a lot of content. As Yagami, you are solving cases both big and small as you progress through the game. The game also offers plenty of side activities such as playing the various arcade classics present in the game (You can play Virtua Fighter 5: Final showdown!). The excellent combat system is easy to pick and play but also allows you to choreograph intense fights as you learn and unlock new moves with a steady pace. If you like games that mix heavy themes with the mundane (often comical) day to day of life. This game should keep you entertained.

Even though this exists in the Yakuza universe, it is a fully stand alone game. I was really hoping for some crossover appearances from some Yakuza characters but it’s not there. Not sure I care enough about these characters to play the sequel. Also, it was jarring to hear the English dub. Voice acting is fine but I was expecting the typical subtitles for this game.

A playable Japanese crime drama that presents the unique style of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio

Judgment is essentially a playable Japanese crime drama with unique characters and a thrilling story. The combat is great, but it acts as the side to an entrée, which is the plot. If you're wanting to play a game full of content and engaging moments, then this is an absolute must try.

I'm just so thrilled, as a fan of the Yakuza series, to be able to finally play the Judgement games. I am busier now than I was when I completed Yakuza, so I mostly use this game as a Mahjong simulator, but it still delivers on what I like in the series.
