About Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition

About this game

UNLEASH YOUR DARKNESS

Experience the thrill of taking on hordes of fearsome yokai in a battle to the death in this brutal masocore Action RPG. Create your own original protagonist and embark on an adventure that will take you through devastated locales across Japan during the Sengoku period.

Much like the previous title which garnered much praise from fans and critics alike, Nioh 2 contains an original profound story surrounding military commanders from the Sengoku period. However, Nioh 2 goes above and beyond its predecessor by including the new Yokai Shift ability which allows the protagonist to utilize new powerful forms to defeat even the most formidable yokai in battle. New to Nioh 2, your enemies can now create a Dark Realm which raises the stakes of battle and creates new challenges for your protagonist to overcome. We hope you enjoy conquering fearsome monsters as you unleash your darkness in the world of Nioh 2.

Included Content

Nioh 2: Complete Edition includes all of the content from Nioh 2 along with all 3 DLC expansions, The Tengu’s Disciple, Darkness in the Capital, and The First Samurai.

The Tengu’s Disciple

The Tengu’s Disciple takes the protagonist to the end of the Heian period, where the Genji and Heike clans were competing ruthlessly with one another. Experience the battle that acts as a prologue which reveals how the story of Nioh 2 came to be.

Darkness in the Capital

Darkness in the Capital takes place during the middle of the Heian period, a point in history where evil spirits and yokai ran rampant throughout Japan. The protagonist is brought back to this period and ventures to the capital where they will uncover the connections between an even more distant past and the present time period from which they came.

The First Samurai

The First Samurai brings the protagonist to the Suzuka Pass during the beginning of the Heian period. In the climactic 3rd expansion of the Nioh 2 saga, the protagonist will once again confront their arch-nemesis, Otakemaru.

The main thing you'd have to know before purchasing this game is that it is difficult, and if you're not up to difficult games then don't get Nioh 2. Really. Even I struggled playing this game cause when I'm deliberating playing Nioh 2 I'm seeing visions of me dying over and over again. The upside to Nioh 2, and this applies to all games that are meant to be difficult, is that you get to witness yourself improving. That giant snake boss that spits poison, and can peel off two other mini-snakes so that you now have to fight 3 enemies, and has an high damage attack that gives you only a split second to successfully dodge? That boss? After three days of fighting that boss and 6 hours of dying, you finally kill him (or her, who knows). This is the chief draw of the game. Sure, there are tons of weapons, and gear, crafting stuff, some magic ult attack, RPG elements with a huge upgrade tree including upgrade trees for all 10 weapons to choose from, and so on, none of this matters if you can't get past a difficult opponent. Apart from that the gameplay is smooth. Butter smooth. These are the people that made the Ninja Gaiden games so surely they know how to make good combat. What this game doesn't do too well is the level design. There's only so much to looking at caves, burned down traditional Japanese homes, and winding dirt paths surrounded by coniferous trees before you start getting a tad bored. There are cool locales seldomly encountered.

Nioh is a great action adventure game with similar gameplay as dark souls but with a Diablo like loot system. Tons of weapon variety, spells, ninja tools, and a good character creator. For sure check it out if you like those types of games and want to enjoy a fun historical-fantasy story.

If you liked the original Nioh, and grinded 100% achievements like I did, and wanted more. Nioh 2 has everything you need. If you didn't like the first one, you may not like the second one much either, though the new systems in play might tilt some into a more favorable direction. It's still hard, though some features may make it easier, such as summoning other players NPCs for assistance (bleh) if an area is too hard for you, and multiplayer seems more viable for those who need a carry (I solo). All things aside at the end of the day I think this game is fire, though it may not be for everyone.

Souls like that goes next level. First was better but this one is no slouch. You must get good. There’s no grinding to win.

Massive and deep. Plenty of room to play with different builds and respec your character. An extensive campaign. No real PvP, but instead PvE against an AI based on stats tracked while you play. It may seem souls-like from a glance, but the combat is more reminiscent of Ninja Gaiden or Dynasty Warriors.
