About Patch Quest

About this game

Deep within a forgotten jungle labyrinth, a Lasso is all that stands between you and vicious monsters!

Taking inspiration from roguelikes, metroidvanias and monster taming games – Patch Quest is a deceptively difficult genre-defying whirlwind that will lasso you in with its fast-paced gameplay and keep you coming back to expand your monster collection. Do you have the skills to carve a path through this island’s shuffling, patchwork maze?

Deceptively Difficult

Patchlantis, once an ancient civilisation has now been fully reclaimed by nature. Fierce monsters, rugged terrain and booby-trapped ruins are all a fact of life, here. Even the island's patchwork terrain will get shuffled each night by a powerful storm!

When defeated on a run, you’re sent right back to base camp. And while there’s many shortcuts to unlock and countless powerups to earn, there’s still no escaping the facts – you’ll have to get good!

Bullet-Hell Chaos

This island is crawling with dangerous monsters. They might look friendly, but behind those adorable googly eyes you’ll find the soul of a vicious predator! Fortunately, you came prepared with your monster-taming Lasso.

You can mount every monster in the game to claim their skills as your own. There’s more than 50 monster species and all of them have a unique set of skills!

Some of them can fly, or swim, or leap across hazardous terrain. And all of them can pack a serious punch in combat!

Collect and Complete

Patchlantis is a twisting labyrinth, filled with countless dangers that can be transformed into your strength. By collecting the monsters, plants and minerals – and by unlocking a criss-crossing network of shortcuts – you can venture ever deeper into the island’s underbelly. Perhaps you can even unravel the mystery of why Patchlantis fell…

  • Explore a shuffling patchwork maze where every run feels fresh and challenging.
  • Lasso the monsters, collecting them all. Level them up and keep them as pets!
  • Earn exploration gadgets that permanently expand your mechanics.
  • Collect over 200 unique plants and minerals!
  • Gather ammo fruits and blend them into powerful ammo smoothies.
  • Unlock gates and open shortcuts, to reach deeper and more dangerous zones.
  • You’ll need to make use of everything you find to survive out here!

Really fun, tranquil yet challenging, polished and inoffensive game.

Same review I posted in Steam - I now have about 6 hours under my belt, and nothing has changed: I knew of this game due to the dev's excellent youtube channel, where he keeps a devlog. And I'd been wanting to try it out. But I have a huge backlog so I kept on pushing it back. But Fanatical just released a bundle where you can get it and two other games for the equivalent of 75% off (or 7 games for 25% more), so it was a good chance to get it. After playing for two hours, the only thing I regret is not getting it sooner. It's pretty much The Binding of Isaac, but with more mechanics and without all the cynicism. The gameplay is engaging and much faster than you'd expect, and the atmosphere is extremely relaxing. With only these two hours under my belt, I'd argue it's the quintessential game for children, or even for older people who'd be put off by the subjects usually approached in highly regarded videogames, not to mention the usual roguelite. No particular violence (your gun's a tranquilizer), nothing doomer about it. It's just healthy fun with a full-fledged but easy to pick up system, and I'm gonna get two more copies for my niece and nephew. Their Christian parents will have nothing to complain about this one, as it will offend no one. That's not to say you won't enjoy it if you're not a kid, or old and easily offended. I'm having a blast, and you can easily note how polished it is, as documented in the devlog previously mentioned. There's an easy mode I haven't tested, which is what I plan on recommending my youngest niece, but the hard mode is seriously fun. I can only think of two reasons why you wouldn't like it: if you need all of your games to be heavily political or philosophical, then this fun, charming game is not for you. And if you need all of your games to feel sadistic in their complexity or level of challenge, I don't think this will do it for you. But if you wouldn't mind a comfortable but definitely existing level of challenge, with a tranquil atmosphere and lots of pretty fun mechanics, get this as soon as you can. Oh, also, it's under 800MB and it ran perfectly in my old 6th gen i7 Dell Optiplex mini with 8RAM and no dedicated GPU, so if you have a toaster, go for it.
