About SuperEpic: The Entertainment War

About this game

VIDEO GAMES ARE DEAD. SEND HELP.

Join a raccoon and a llama in their quest to save video games as we know them! SuperEpic is a Metroidvania-style action-adventure game filled with humour and satire. The gameplay is nonlinear and fast-paced, with exploration and combo-based combat being the weapon of choice against the evil RegnantCorp!

Features

  • Classic story-driven mode with handcrafted levels and multiple endings
  • Gorgeous 16/32 bit era cartoon sprites
  • RPG like weapon and armor upgrading system, with tonnes of items to collect and discover
  • Extensive combo-based combat system
  • An unlockable procedural "roguelite mode"
  • Optional cross media content
  • Fast paced non-lineal exploration

Story

The year is 2084. After a series of mergers, buyouts and hostile takeovers, only one videogame development company is left in the world: RegnantCorp. A huge enterprise ran by a sounder of greedy piggies. All the fun in video games has been replaced with intrusive addiction algorithms used to control people’s minds and behaviour.

But not all of the world’s inhabitants are under the control of the evil corporation…

A rebellion of game enthusiasts have warded off the hoofed-grip of RegnantCorp, by replacing their software with classic games. Titles from past times, which have long been forbidden and are now praised as relics. Following a distress signal captured through an antiquated game console, Tan Tan and his valiant llama steed Ola prepare to take on RegnantCorp and confront the pigs...

Gameplay

The finest quality ingredients can be found in this Metroidvania! A large interconnected world to explore and unlock, a responsive customizable action-set for combat and an in-game economy-based upgrading system. Unlock and enhance weapons and abilities for both our courageous heroes, Tan Tan the Raccoon and Ola the Llama. Up to three weapons can be equipped simultaneously to provide a range of unique directional attacks. More powerful abilities are executed by inputting a specific sequence of keys... Just like the old days!

Note: The SuperEpic trailer shows one of our parody minigames that can be played on your smartphone. We understand not everybody has phones! (Or may prefer not to bring a phone into their gaming session!) Skipping the minigames will not hinder your progress in SuperEpic.

Nice Metroidvania with quirky characters and an intense combo system, features some of the most innovative gameplay, integrating mini-games that parody current gaming industry trends. Interesting and fun!

More than just another metroidvania, this game adds its lot of humor, reference and cool ideas. You're a racoon riding a lama, on a quest to destroy the monopoly on video games that Regnantcorp has acquired, delivering bad free-to-play games to the controlled masses. You have three basic attacks and can make combos with a bunch of upgradable hilarious weapons such as an umbrella, a golf club or a stop sign, on top of equiping yourself and your faithful lama, and learning new special attacks. Every area and boss is full of references to other video games up to unlocking a roguelike version of the game or having to play a retro version of it to beat a boss. It goes even further when some places are protected by a code you can only obtain by scanning a QR code present in the game that leads you to a mini-game parodying those very games Regnantcorp produces, like an incremental and some flappy bird rip-off, amongst others. All in all this game is just a ton of fun, whether it be in the action, the setting, the gimmicks or the tone, and it deserves to be more known and played by all metroidvania fans and by all long time game video lovers in general.

Cool art style.

First impression: It' broke on a fullscreen monitor, I know the world is widescreen, but if you are going to make your game START in fullscreen than support fullscreen, don't make people hack your game to get it to window mode so they can play it. Second impression: Cool pixel style artwork, okay feeling combat but gets old real fast, story that instantly feels uninteresting. I know it's supposed to be like classic games where the story is just an excuse to play a game, but unlike old games the story gets in the way and makes you read it unlike old games. Third Impression: Scanning a barcode to play a game on your fun is... cool, but also makes me feel like parts of the game are going to be broken 10 years from now. Fourth Impression: I'm bored and can't play anymore, it was okay fun for a bit though.

Kinda bland. Looked much more exciting in the screenshots and video, but gameplay is very unexciting and samey.
