A game that proves that video games can be a lot more than entertainment. It can be a teacher and a reminder of our history and the victims of human brutality and human compassion and love.
Valiant hearts is a beautiful game, not only because of its artstyle but also in its storytelling.
The game follows a couple characters and their reality during the first world war. It's a sidescroller that tells its story through puzzles, journals, music and more. The puzzles are quite simple and can get a bit boring, thankfully they never manage to outstay their welcome.
The music in Valiant Hearts is a perfect mood setter and really takes this game to the top. It is able to convey the destruction, grief but also beauty and hopefulness that lives in the victims of war.
A lot of the game is directly inspired or factualy accurate of our own history. To be short it's rough and horrible but it is our history and legacy and it needs to be understood. Because as the game shows there is hope even in hopelessness.
