About Cat Quest

About this game

Cat Quest is an open world RPG set in the pawsome world of cats!

Leap into a grand adventure in purrsuit of the evil Drakoth and your catnapped sister! Explore Felingard's huge overworld map, risk life and limb delving into dungeons for epic loot, and lend a paw to a furry cast of characters in a flurry of side quests.

Real-time Combat

Combat in Cat Quest takes place entirely in real time, allowing you to get close to enemies with a slash of your blade, dodge roll to avoid a counter-attack, and then finish them off with powerful magic! Wield the ancient spells of Lightnyan, Flamepurr, and Healpaw to vanquish your foes! (Fur real!)

Equipment Customization

Outfit your catventurer with a whole basket of equipment! Prefurr casting spells? Don an arcane hood, robes, and a staff to bolster your mana reserves! Want to protect yourself from attack? Deck out your catventurer with chainmail armor to increase your health and provide an extra level of protection. Weapons, armor, and spells can be mixed and matched to create the purrfect combinations for your playstyle!

World Exploration

The world of Felingard is littered with interesting places and people! Discover a possessed town whose residents lust for obscene amounts of meat, assist the mages Mewlin and Meowgan in their search to break a magic seal, and locate someone's missing delivery of "House of Parchments" and "The Pouncing Dead". Exploration is one of the main scratching posts of Cat Quest, and with locations such as Bermewda's Triangle, the Furbidden Fields, and Pawt City to explore, it's time to get pawing!

Soundtrack

Experience an enchanting orchestral score inspired by classic RPGs!

Honestly kind of enjoyable but it's just...meh. Hit the enemy, roll back. Hit the enemy. Roll back. Nothing about it was bad and in another time, this would be something I would sink 100s of hours in. This is not that time.

This is one of those conditional ratings, because after playing for too long and completing everything possible I honestly never want to see this game in my library again. I had fun while it lasted (well, up until replaying FOUR TIMES for the achievements AAAAAHHHHHH) but unlike truly great games, the more I thought about this the less I liked it. As you might get from reading other reviews, this game consists pretty much entirely of filler. And sure, the filler is kinda enjoyable, but my goodness does it all taste the same. The art style is cute, the music is fun, the puns border on criminal and the bushes do a lil' bouncy animation when you run through them which gives it bonus points. But the game goes to such bizarre lengths to artificially extend its playtime that I almost thought it was published by Ubisoft. I would instantly give this game a 9/10 if it realised that and stuck to what is a pretty cool open world, where you could just zoom through in 10 minutes if you were skilled/insane enough. The first time through you've got to unlock certain abilities to get places, which I get, but for the next playthrough they give some of these abilities to you straight off the bat. Which, I thought, great! I know the story (it's... meh?) so I can just level up a bit, find some nice weapons (who are we kidding, we all went for the master set) and zoom straight to the final boss in a breath-of-the-wild-esque show of "am I dumb enough to actually try beating the final boss at level 3, and if so, how darn cool am I going to feel when I eventually do!?" But... no. Nothing spawns until you complete the quests in a specific order, which'll send you bouncing about the map following quest markers because 'YoU cAnT ChaLlEngE ThE DraGoN TilL mY GraNDpA SayS You'RE sTroNg EnoUGh" like okay Celia just 'cause your grandpa is actually a big whale doesn't mean you have to be such a moby DICK. Err, sorry, switched games there. What was I talking about? OH YEAH THE QUEST MARKERS. This is probably my biggest criticism (why is why it's last... my English teacher must be turning in her grave). There is literally no thoughtful input from the player at ALL. "Dragon is over water". Does that mean we gotta check each big lake, maybe fight some enemies along the way? Nope, here's an arrow. "We gotta hide this catnip in a bush that's far away!" Can we pick a sufficiently far-away-ish bush? Nope, pick these ones with arrows. "The mage ran away, but he's left tracks!" Do we...

Great game! My 8y/o loves it. The dialogue and story are well rotten and very cute. Lots of plays on cat/feline words! As a grime adult male I even really enjoy it 😅 large map, cool design. Easy to play. I recommend. I payed $1.
