"Pragmata's confidence in its punchy shootouts and old-school cool pays off, and the two leads roved their way into my heart despite a predictable plot."

Pragmata is essentially a “lite” roguelike. You push through sections, clear enemies, collect upgrades, return to your base (the Shelter) to enhance weapons and hacking abilities, then dive back in with everything reset. It’s a tight loop, and it works beautifully.
Also, the game reminds me of Returnal because of its weapon slot system. You have four weapon slots, and each slot only accepts certain weapon types. You can’t freely rearrange them, so you’re constantly making decisions about what to drop and what to keep. It adds a layer of strategy and tension, especially when different enemy types force you to rethink your loadout on the fly.
Capcom absolutely nailed this new IP. The game isn’t nearly as punishing as Returnal, so don’t expect that level of brutality, but it’s still engaging and satisfying. The reviewers weren’t exaggerating—this IP really is something special.
The heart of the game is the dynamic between Diana and Hugh. It’s peak “dad and daughter in space” energy: adorable, funny, and surprisingly wholesome amid all the sci‑fi chaos. Their interactions give the game a soul that elevates everything around it.
I was worried that juggling shooting and hacking at the same time would feel like I needed to grow a third arm, but it’s shockingly intuitive. You’re constantly making tactical decisions on the fly, and instead of feeling overwhelmed, you feel clever. Turns out multitasking is a lot easier when you’re a futuristic space‑dad.
And the PC port? Outstanding. In an era where half the releases arrive with stutters, shader issues, or “please wait for our Day One patch” energy, Pragmata just works. If you’re on Nvidia hardware, prepare for a spiritual experience. I’m running everything maxed with Path Tracing enabled, and it’s smoother than a fresh jar of peanut butter. Unlike the usual Unreal Engine hitch‑fest, this is pure stability.
Path Tracing isn’t a gimmick here, it’s a genuine next‑gen showcase. The lighting, reflections, and atmosphere feel like the future we were promised years ago. And Capcom delivered all of this without needing seven emergency patches to make the game playable. This is the kind of craftsmanship we should be supporting.
It’s a great time to be a gamer when Capcom is dropping gems like this. If you love sci‑fi, action, or that specific Dead Space vibe (minus the existential dread, plus a lovable kid), this is absolutely worth your money.
Don’t wait for a sale. The final product surpasses the demo in every...
