Shantae Risky's Revenge is a charming 2D Metroidvania. The pixel art is lovely. The dungeons and boss battles are challenging. Shantae learns different transformations that aid her while she transverses the world she inhabits. The game has secrets, exploration, and backtracking like any Metroidvania. The game consists of an interconnected overworld with unique environments to explore with a couple of dungeons to beat. The characters and story are interesting. and I'm curious to see how her story progresses since this is my first Shantae game. I'm hoping Fanatical puts her other games in a "build your own bundle" someday! It would be an insta-buy for me! The pixel art is well done and has that WayForward charm! The only thing that I disliked was the map of the Overworld that could be toggled to look at. It could have been easier to figure out, but as the game progressed it became easy to teleport to different areas, and transverse around the world like in any other Metroidvania, so my issue with the map wasn't that big of a deal. I really enjoyed the game and I hope to check out the rest of the Shantae series in the future!

Pan Dimensional Being
Shantae is a really fun series. The platforming and action work really well and the games are clearly built with care and aesthetics in mind. This one was originally released as DSiWare and on iOS and the graphics do show it as a mobile port, but if you can get past that it plays well and is a great action platformer. The movement and controls are flawless which is a big part of why i love this series. The story and characters are goofy and well designed. I've yet to beat the game, but from what I've played already it is fun and I am definitely gonna run through the whole game.

It's the oldest game in the series that you can play legit on PC, which means it comes with some jankiness like weird resolution options, strange key bindings, and odd gameplay choices which have since been solved by other platformers and presumably by later games in the series. For all that, however, the game itself is a fun little rompy platformer that draws you in with charming graphics and music that will make you bob your head along with it. There's a fair amount of backtracking, which is my only true complaint. Still, it's worth the full price of admission, definitely worth it on sale.
