Absolutely worth it if its specifically this version. Honestly, if you don't own vanilla Half-Genie Hero, absolutely this. There's no real reason to purchase this if you already own vanilla HGH, even if its on sale. You only get a cosmetic chance and a obscure new form that doesn't really amount to much. Other than that, I love it.

I love the powers involved here and really wish the rest of the game was better. The level design pales compared to the metroidvania elements of previous titles and revisiting levels just isn't very fun.

Shante: Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition is a charming, action platformer that I thoroughly enjoy from start to finish. This review will not contain spoilers, so let me be brief about what I liked about this game.
To start, the pixel work on the characters are incredibly expressive and fluid, making exploration through my playthrough pretty enjoyable. The artwork for the light novel dialogue is especially wholesome and the characters have a charming connection between them. Even the villains of the story have something to offer as well.
The gameplay is the major meat of this platforming game. It's fun and keeps you on your toes, but also introduces the various transformations needed to unlock various secrets, alternative pathways, and unique experiences whenever you use them later on. This is especially great because at certain points of the game, you can replay the level with a powerup you've recently acquired, and tackle some new challenges along the way.
The one criticism I do have with this game is that it has a major spike in difficulty at the later half of the game. For me, it was simple enough, but it can be a bit frustrating since the game, at least until this point, has been fairly rewarding yet challenging for me. The story itself isn't immensely engaging or has some deep meaning either, but for this title, I think that's fine. It's meant be something you can pick up, play a while, and put down for later.
All in all, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Ultimate edition is still the enjoyable platforming game that anyone can enjoy.
