Best game for a quick boardgame with friends who don't live close enough to visit. There is a mod for virtually everything.

Fantastic simulator for online board and card gaming

It's a great way to play games long distance with friends. I used it a ton in 2020 when we were staying home a lot. It has as many logistical innovations as it does shortcomings, so while it makes playing board and card games easier to play over distance, it also requires some creativity to work around these things.

I bought this during the recent pandemic lockdown and it was initially pretty awkward to use but got the hang of it eventually. There are no scripts in the included games so everyone involved has to know and play by the rules. Steam workshop is great, there were some good games on there at the time of playing including Pandemic, Arkham Horror (quite good playing solo too), Splendor, Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan etc. Some had really good scripts too so it made things quicker. However, over time, some of these get removed due to licensing issues so keeping back-ups using a third party software is necessary unless you don't mind losing access to them or buying them individually with dedicated developers doing a great job translating it over (Wingspan comes to mind). Physics-based games do not perform too well though, Carrom wasn't too bad but others like Mini Golf and Pool probably best off elsewhere. I stopped playing eventually as nothing really beats the original thing but it was nice to have this option when physically meeting up with other players wasn't possible.

I really, really, hope the dev's from table top simulator partner with more devs for official DLC for board games. Especially as a game gets more complex, simple functions such as shuffle, draw a card, or sharing a card so people can read details is way better than in person.
