About XCOM®: Chimera Squad

About this game

Experience the latest installment in the XCOM universe with an all-new story and turn-based tactical combat experience with your XCOM: Chimera Squad Steam PC key.

After years of alien rule, humanity won the war for Earth. But when the Overlords fled the planet, they left their former soldiers behind. Now, five years after the events of XCOM 2, humans and aliens are working together to forge a civilization of co-operation and coexistence.

Welcome to City 31, a model of peace in a post-invasion world. However, not all of Earth's inhabitants support interspecies alliance. Chimera Squad, an elite force of human and alien agents, must work together to destroy the underground threats driving the city toward chaos.

The future of City 31 depends on you.

UNIQUE HUMAN & ALIEN AGENTS
Each of the 11 agents have their own distinct personality and tactical abilities, including species-specific attacks like the Viper’s tongue pull.

Each of them is equipped with special tactical abilities and driven by a different motivation for joining Chimera Squad. Deploy targeted team members to investigate and combat the dangers that pervade the districts of City 31.

Lead Chimera Squad through a new experience that innovates on XCOM's turn-based legacy, utilizing strategy, teamwork, and new breach-and-clear gameplay to complete your mission objectives. Execute devastating combos by teaming the right agents and utilizing cooperative actions. The difference between mission success and failure can depend wholly on team composition.

RE-ENVISIONED TACTICAL COMBAT
Missions are structured as a series of discrete, explosive encounters, keeping the action intense and unpredictable. Shape the battlefield to your advantage with a new combat phase called 'Breach' that injects your squad right into action.

Strategically assign your agents to different entry points and coordinate their assault with a range of Breach-specific skills.

INTERLEAVED TURNS
An automatic initiative system slots individual agents and enemies into an alternating turn order, creating new strategic possibilities based on what unit is queued to act next—and what unit is at the greatest risk when they do.

SUSPENSEFUL STRATEGY
Outside of combat, manage the operations of a high-tech HQ, where you must prioritize competing tasks, investigations, and agent assignments in the face of a ticking clock: the constantly rising unrest in the city’s various districts, driving City 31 closer and closer to total anarchy.

YOUR OFFICIAL XCOM: CHIMERA SQUAD STEAM PC KEY GIVES YOU:

  • Latest installment in the popular turn-based strategy XCOM universe.
  • Alien and Human agents with unique personality and tactical abilities.
  • Interleaved turns and suspenseful strategy for both inside and outside of the battlefield.

This is more of a relaxed game and not for XCOM fans. Maybe if you want your yonger teenager to like turn based, buy it for them or for an adult looking for a more casual turn based strategy.

A Follow On, possible future of XCOM2: War of the Chosen, where you play as the police in peacetime.

Not your father's XCOM, Chimera Squad is set following XCOM's victory in XCOM2: War of the Chosen. The armies of psionically controlled aliens have been freed from the control of the Elders and now live with humans, in the new cities rebuilt by the alien forces after the successful invasion in XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It seems a bit of a stretch, but Chimera Squad are a SWAT style team sent to police one such city - City 31. Three rogue factions are violating the peace of the city, the regular police are outgunned, only XCOM's new Chimera Squad agents can save the city! Actual gameplay is a very cut-down version of XCOM 2, with set characters that join your squad - you cannot rename them, or choose their classes, but you do get to pick from a few options after the first 4, who are always the same. Each agent has abilities unique to them, and each is much tougher than agents in previous games. The tech tree is also very limited, there is only a basic armour type that can be upgraded to be a bit better, and no basic weapons beyond the starting class weapons, shotgun, pistol, assault rifle and SMG. Each type of weapon can be upgraded to do more damage, and there are "Epic" weapons that can be found in the game that give the wielder an extra ability. Features more story than previous XCOM games, and a new initiative system that takes some getting used to. I recommend this title as a AA game that doesn't cost very much. It certainly isn't a full-fledged game, like XCOM: Enemy Unknown or XCOM 2. Additionally I did experience some bugs, including one that I had to resolve using the console.

Core gameplay is similar to that of XCOM2, which is excellent. More of a narrative/character focus in this game, and the writing is unfortunately hard to stomach.
