About Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition

About this game

Developed and published by Bethesda.

In Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition, the world has fallen into a deadly, barren state after the war culminated in nuclear bombs. Now, as the sole survivor from your vault — Vault 111 — you venture off into the wasteland to find out who took your son while you were in a sleep pod.

Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition comes with:

  • Base game
  • Fallout 4 Far Harbor
  • Fallout 4 Vault-Tec Workshop
  • Fallout 4 - Contraptions Workshop
  • Fallout 4 - Automatron
  • Fallout 4 - Wasteland Workshop
  • Fallout 4 - Nuka-World

Explore the Vast World

Fallout 4 offers a huge open world to explore, teeming with characters, quests, and locations to explore! Whether you spend your time killing ghouls and super mutants to steal their loot or you're off with one of the many factions finishing quests for them, you'll always have something to do!

It's All You!

Your character is yours to make! Create and customise them, from their gender and appearance to their S.P.E.C.I.A.L.! Choose their strengths and weaknesses, name them, and head off to experience their tragic story!

Perks and Skills

Aside from customising your vault dweller, you'll also gain experience throughout your time in the wastelands. These will give you some points you can spend on perks to even further customise yourself in this vast RPG!

Guns and Ammo

Whether you use a normal gun or a plasma one is up to you! Find all sorts of fun weapons scattered throughout these dangerous lands: from rifles and shot guns to plasma weapons, grenades, and missile launchers!

Friends Along the Way

During your journey in Fallout 4, you'll meet all kinds of characters. Some of them will be touched by your story and want to join you; you'll find robots, ghouls, and normal people will all be willing to lend you a hand!

And Then...

Maybe along the long, arduous journey, your companionship will become more than just adventuring! Some of the companions are romanceable, meaning you can make them yours!

Tourist Attraction

Although the bombs did away with most of the natural beauty of Earth, you'll still find some amazing things in this new place. Mutated animals, strange plants, glowing water, and tons of radioactive areas are all in store for you!

Look Out For Your People

Collect items throughout your journey to build up settlements for the people of the Commonwealth or even just to spruce up your home! From these seemingly random items, you'll make proper crafting materials to make anything from homes to weapons, armour, chemicals, and food!

Steam Deck

Last but not least, Fallout 4 is playable on the Steam Deck, meaning your journey through the wasteland never has to end!

The first 2-4 hours were a bit... weird for me. But after the start I fell in love with this game! After over 200 hours I still enjoy the game. The content is huge and the DLCs are worth it. Got it for under 10€. Mod support ist huge!

Not the best RPG, but a good exploration-based shooter.

I truly could not stomach playing through the vanilla version of the game again as, despite the improved gunplay and changes to the exploration loop to make the smaller things worth picking up, the game falls short as an RPG and suffers from both terrible writing and dialogue. The VAs for both Nate & Nora didn't do a bad job by any means, but their inclusion limits my ability to project either my own or a made up voice for the type of character I want to play. Not only that, but it's somewhat hard to be bad in FO4? Both protagonists even when trying to be awful, have their behaviour shrugged off by the cast, deeming you as a "nice, but rough around the edges" sort of person, which is not what I want from an RPG. Many of the dialogue options also lead you down the same path regardless of what dialogue option you opt for. The main questline also truly bugs the hell out of me, I don't want a child nor the urgency of finding one and it's hard for me as a player to care about a character I have no attachment to due to such woefully limited time with them. Emotional responses made by Nata / Nora aren't relatable, even as a parent myself. I'm also not happy about the severe lack of weapons in this game, what's going on there? The series is known to have IRL weapon manufacturers based on previous entries in the franchise. I have the creeping suspicion that not only did Beth not want to pay out for weapon licenses, but couldn't be bothered to put the effort in and rename / slightly remodel like other titles do. BUT, and this is a very big BUT (cannot lie, you other brothers can't deny) the game has a great foundation for modding, and despite not truly being able to fix the absolutely travesty of an RPG that Fallout 4 is, only offering it a band-aid, you CAN drastically improve the gunplay, exploration and atmosphere to such an extent that it feels more STALKER like, whilst retaining features you know from the FO franchise. It's still fun to play due to the gunplay and exploration changes. If you plan to only play through it once, it's still a solid game. If you plan to play it more than once, then it isn't worth doing imho without some mods thrown into the mix. Oh, Far Harbour is also a great expansion. FO4 is also significantly better than FO76 despite it's updates over the years. I'd recommend this over that any day of the week, and I've clocked over 100 hours into the latter post-wastelanders.
