Not perfect yet, but shows a lot of promise

Outriders takes a little time to find its feet, but once it does the bombastic gunplay is a lot of fun! Sure, the gameplay loop is very similar to Borderlands, but the story and enemies are really different. In fact, I'd argue that there's a little too much time spent fighting humans and not enough time fighting the (way more interesting) aliens. There's plenty of side quests with good rewards that'll keep you heading back to old areas, and it's great to find that one new totally-OP item that absolutely crushes any enemies that stand in your way!

I am stuck behind a wooden wall as bullets slowly break the only barrier I have. Next moment I hear the distinct screams of an axe wielder running towards me. Last thing I need now is someone stuck in my face. I have one shot before I am swamped. The sniper rifle makes quick work as I find the enemy sniper in my scope and color the battlefield with his brains. Unfortunately I took a bullet in the action, but still good to go. The shotgun is ready and loaded as the axe wielder shows his ugly face. In one movement I jump up, punch and freezing him before discharging a few shells into his body. He shatters in place and I quickly take cover again, switching back to old faithful, cleaning the field with my sniper rifle. I was sceptical a few times if I should buy or not, watching plenty videos and even trying the demo, but the game grew on me once I knew how the basics worked. The fighting can get fast, causing you to think on your feet and plenty kinds of guns to help get past the problem. This and your special abilities. Then you have quite a few extra side missions you can do which keeps on activating as you progress. Back in town, it is time to buy, sell or craft some new gear. What I also like is how you have to destroy an item to claim its mod for later use, infinite use and only have to do it once with three levels of mods to gain. I can't see any game breaking bugs or any major problems and I know the game received mediocre feedback, but for me this is a fun yes with plenty to do in the long run. The campaign alone seems lengthy which is surprising for a shooter game.

Fast paced combat with nice chunky damage. The crafting is simple and the story is only okay but overall I found it fun to play. Better with friends - easy 4 person drop in/drop out. Worth buying on sale.

This is game is fun, it has a really good level progression, and the gameplay is pretty good when you don't play like a regular cover shooter. Sad to say though, this game is average at best, with clunky movement, interaction bugs, unmemorable characters, invisible received damage, repetitive gameplay, and tons of loading screens. This is an interesting looter shooter but it lands with a huge thud.

Cheap and good service. The game is good but not awesome.

Perhaps it just runs extremely well on my machine, perhaps the multiplayer is where it falls apart, but the core gameplay loop is honestly better than Borderlands, even if it's a bit too serious.

If you've played Borderlands, you've played a better (and of course, funnier) version of this. There's nothing wrong with making an edgelord looter shooter but this one is an unstable game-as-a-service with invasive security features and a halfhearted campaign that fails to elevate the gameplay loop. Since there's nothing particularly wrong with the looter-shooter aspect of the game (any one stage in isolation is enjoyable), this is a perfect example of a game that is less than the sum of its parts rather than more. Whatever you do spend on it, be prepared to lose that when they decide to pull support for the always-online lobby aspect that is required even for a solo campaign.
