Return to Monkey Island

I'm just about old enough to have played Monkey Island (and other point and click games) the first time around. Though, because I was quite young at the time, the difficulty of the puzzles was often beyond me. Many, many years later, and finding myself somewhat disenchanted with the games industry of the present day, I was excited to get into this game and see what it had to offer. Disappointingly, though, what it has to offer is mostly nostalgia. On the plus side, the game runs exceptionally well and is basically jank-free, which was not something I remember being the case back in the day. But on the down side, the game adds basically nothing to the successful format, so many years after the genre peaked. Of course, its not completely fair to expect every game released to be pushing boundaries and evolving the nature of gameplay, but when you're using a gameplay loop from basically 30 years ago and adding nothing new to it, you perhaps disappoint some (but not all) of your audience. Personally, I found the tone and gameplay too childish and simplistic, considering how old I am now. And just like the original games, so of the solutions to puzzles just feel arbitrary; solving them can be attritional instead of logical. Overall, I'm sure players of the original games will get something out of this one, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.

I really liked it. The art style is beautiful in game and I was one of those people who were wondering why they couldnt return to Monkey Island 3 style graphics. The pacing is really good, mega monkey mode is back, it does service to all previous games and gives you those 90s Lucas Arts feels. I can't stop telling people about this game.

A very good game that remember the other episodes in a nice way. The visual style could is not really to my taste but it is not all bad either.

Very funny and good game. I´d like to play Monkey Island Games...

Sequel to a childhood masterpiece but now with new art style which actually starts to grow on you. This is more than a game, the music and the visuals are so pleasing to the eye you could just load the game and get lost in that world and the actual gameplay is just an extra bonus.

Great game, that really puts us back in the original search for the secret of monkey island and revisit those known places The art choice is quite different from the original, it's certainly not as good looking as Curse of monkey island, but it's decent and goesn't get in the way anyway
