About Secret Government

About this game

Secret Government is a grand strategy game about a secret society. Remaining unseen, they have been ruling mankind for hundreds of years. Your role will be not to just lead any particular country or region, but the Brotherhood: a centuries-old organization that works in the shadows and manipulates the entire world. Pull the strings of fate as you influence the present and future on a global scale, reconstructing the whole world to your liking.

Strategically manage your agents running errands in different countries and infiltrating government institutions to strip countries of their resources and seize control over decision-makers. Your choices will change the internal and foreign policies of countries.

A desire for power and wealth is not the only thing that drives the Brotherhood. It strives for a complete rebuilding of the world.

Beginning in the 17th century, you start making your own history, where in each mission of the game you will interfere in the main conflict of a certain period.

In the Early Access version, you will take part in the Glorious Revolution in England. There you will face a hostile secret organization. Its methods are similar to yours, but the goals are completely different, and you have to figure them out.

You need to act slowly and carefully not to raise the awareness of your clout in the country. You will otherwise be exposed and lose the level of influence already gained in this very country.

There will be plenty of diplomatic, economic and military actions at your disposal. Pay close attention to the domestic politics of each country. If the ruling party’s ideology is very different from the views of various classes and estates, if tax levels are too high and public order too low, then expect a revolution. Or maybe this is what you seek?

You cannot impose your will on the rulers - your manipulations in the game are indirect. You do not have the power to order a monarch to declare war on a neighboring country, but you can plant your agents in the right places, provoke deterioration in relations by indirect actions, arrange a border incident and bring the countries to a military conflict.

We hope that you will spend many enjoyable hours exploring how the world works with Secret Government! Join the Brotherhood!

List of Key Features

  • Rewrite History - From the 17th century to the present day, the War of Independence to the French and Napoleonic Wars, each mission will drop players into major global conflicts, tasking them with manipulating the outcome to serve the Brotherhood’s ambitions.
  • Play Your Pawns - The world’s most powerful figures - from national rulers to military superpowers - are but mere pawns to you. Learn to manipulate their complex AI machinations as you leverage their unique abilities to shape the world to your needs.
  • Indirect Influence - Why should you have to do the heavy lifting of executing your diplomatic, economic, and militaristic ambitions? Plant your own agents and indirectly coerce others to do your bidding with over 50 types of actions intended to upend the world’s balance in your favor while keeping your hands clean.
  • Manipulate a Living World - From ideologies to social classes, taxes to civil unrest, the world of Secret Government is comprised of countless interconnected sociopolitical systems that effectively simulate a believable and reactionary world. While world leaders strive to maintain the status quo, how will you destabilize the system and trigger worldwide change?
  • You’re Not Alone in the Shadows - Facing down a hostile secret organization that isn’t afraid to manipulate their way into the history books, make every action and choice count in order to outthink the competition and maintain your hard-earned secrecy and level of infiltration in the shadows.

Game is ok, great idea, just mediocre execution. Has some bugs and it seems the devs have abandoned the game. Gameplay wise it just feels samey, too many brotherhood battles and what not. Would love a game like this made by a more experienced dev

While the game has some fairly interesting mechanics and a fairly deep system of statistics for the player to manipulate, the UI design is very much a failure. Despite fairly intricate systems of influence, economy and diplomacy, it comes out to a management game where you're constantly fighting a clumsy UI in an effort to get a clear overview of the things you need to know to make good decisions. Too many icons and not enough text and tooltips for a game with this level of depth. On top of that, many of said icons are visually very similar to each other, sometimes making it hard to identify what your characters are actualy doing at a glance. And to cap off the list of outright glaring problems: a lot of important information, especially about your own secret society's members, that could easily be displayed in tooltips, is instead located in separate in-game windows that block access to the "main" map screen while they're opened.

Lots of content. Requires some learning.

I bought the game as part of a bundle with the intention to play later. I found it difficult to get it to run at first but soon got used to it. My computer isn't brilliant. After getting into the game it looks like it has a lot of content but also that it requires quite a learning curve. It's a game that I'll spend more time on when I have some time to spare. I found some of the gameplay slightly confusing. For example, it told me to open a government window without any instructions to do so. Eventually I went to key bindings and figured this out but a hint would've been nice.

Okay game…. Needs a tweak

Illuminati wanna be

It’s firmly a Meh…. The premise is great. The old there is more power behind the throne then on it. Too much emphasis at present on agents fighting rather than doing what they are truly intended to do. Subvert, influence etc …. It’s been fun and frustrating at the same time. Publisher reads reviews and responds so there is hope things change.

Good subject matter, mediocre execution!

Earth Inferno

While the game concept itself is solid, and I am interested in anything related to secret societies, or original source material--as well as novels based upon said occult ideologies--such as the Illuminatus! trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea, the gameplay here is lackluster, in that it is too generic, linear, and relatively lacking in options. In other words, good concept, worth maybe a few hours of time invested on discount, but not something I would care to repeat, or could give a solid two thumb up to over other games in the strategy arena! The only saving grace, and reason I am recommending it, is because there is nothing else akin to this subject matter available on the current market! If you are a developer, and are reading this review, please make us a decent game about secret societies, secret government, the occult, and conspiracy theories! It is relatively untapped source material, but deserves more than a shallow once-over in terms of gameplay!

This is a slow moving game that takes time to develop and understand what your accomplishments are supposed to achieve. The games interface lacks the ability to grab and move the "map" to where you want it and instead relies on moving the cursor to the side or up and down. And even then it is clunky in its ability to perform its function.. The cursor control is not adjustable to slow it down or speed it, so you end up scrolling off the side or top of the map quite frequently. This is very frustrating spend a lot more time trying to position the map properly rather than developing your strategy.
