One does not simply walk into Mordor – one must partake in a series of gripping missions to eliminate followers of the Dark Lord
Winner of over 50 “Best of 2014” Awards including Game of the Year, Best Action Game and Most Innovative Game – Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor was the biggest launch for a game based on The Lord of the Rings franchise in the UK alone. Fight through Mordor and uncover the truth of the spirit that compels you with the definitive version of this epic open-world RPG, which includes The Lord of the Hunt and The Bright Lord story missions, the Trials of War challenge series – plus additional Warband missions, runes and skins. Discover the origins of the Rings of Power, build your legend and ultimately confront the evil of Sauron in this action-packed chronicle of Middle-earth.
HUNT DOWN ENEMIES, AVENGE YOUR KIN
A beautifully crafted world inspired by the creative mind of J. R. R. Tolkien, author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, Shadow of Mordor sees Gondor captain Talion and Elven spirit Celebrimbor embark on a quest to avenge their loved ones who have been tragically killed by the Black Hand, voiced by Nolan North (Uncharted’s Nathan Drake) and his orc minions. Combine the might of man and elf by taking down countless enemies in your quest to destroy the evil forces that infest these lands.
GAME-CHANGING EXPERIENCE WITH THE NEMESIS SYSTEM
A unique playthrough almost guaranteed each time, thanks to the Nemesis System. Talion’s failure to defeat enemies or, in some cases, deaths alter the future of orcs and uruks. A low-ranked orc can rise through the ranks and strengthen the enemy’s defences if they are able to defeat Talion and earn the bragging rights. Equally, players can topple enemy factions by defeating high-ranked captains by either killing them or using Celebrimbor’s magic to make them serve the Bright Lord. Scouting enemy generals and Warchiefs by interrogating weaker orcs grants Talion vision of their specific strengths and weaknesses – whether it be stealth or a method of attack which triggers enragement.
FEROCIOUS BEASTS AND NO NEED TO FIND THEM
Aside from orcs and uruks, Talion will come face to face with large beasts in the wild including the wolf-like caragors and troll-like graugs – both of which are dangerous to take on but they can also be tamed to battle against your enemies. Upgrade your abilities to ride deadly monsters through gaining experience points and purchasing them via a skill tree-based system. Build your strength and work your way towards an all-out encounter with the Black Hand and the Nazgul, with clashes that will test your swordsmanship.
ADDICTIVE COMBAT
Slash your way through enemies using a variety of attacks, the simplistic button layout of hit, counter and stun – combined with dodge and roll – grants players the ability to take on hordes of orcs to power up for an almighty, gory finisher. Use grog barrels, hives of morgai flies and caged caragors to your advantage when outnumbered or to terrify a Warchief into running away. Master the elven bow as you slow down time to focus-shot an enemy orc on the horizon, resulting in disarming shielded enemies and, in most cases, satisfying headshots. Take advantage of Celebrimbor’s ability to use speed and agility in battle, or to flee when conflict has taken a turn for the worse.
CAPTIVATING AUDIO
BAFTA Games Award award-winning Garry Schyman sets the scene in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor with in-game music on par with the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies. Hear spine-tingling, adrenaline-pumping audio as you dive deeper into the mythical world of Middle-earth and see it, and hear it, in all its glory. Hear the battle cries of captains and Warchiefs as they charge into battle, and the sound of dismembered flesh as you strike your enemies to the ground.
