About Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

About this game

Embark on a brand new adventure with Shantae, the hair-whipping belly dancing genie. When she loses her magic, Shantae must team up with her nemesis, the nefarious pirate Risky Boots in order to save Sequin Land from an evil curse. As a pirate, Shantae gains new weapons to advance her quest, slay monsters, battle epic bosses…and hopefully get her magic back in the bargain! But can she really trust her deadliest enemy?

The third Shantae game is the biggest yet! Beyond Sequin Land lie cursed islands and labyrinths each hiding a new piece of Pirate Gear - Flintlock Pistol, Pirate Hat, Scimitar, Risky's Boots, and even a Cannon. Upgrade Shantae's hair and weapons or unlock advanced Fighter's Moves. Locate maps, return lost Heart Squids, collect rare loot, and laugh out loud at the weird, wild, and wonderfully humorous cast of characters. Incredible high resolution artwork, unlockable Pirate-Mode, multiple endings, and an unforgettable soundtrack make this one game you won't want to miss!

Beautiful and casual

With Shantae, what you see is exactly what you get: a colorful and light-hearted platformer that doesn't take its story too seriously. This one feels like a throwback to the good ol' days of Aladdin or The Lion King (which I used to play on MegaDrive)... minus the punishing difficulty. I'm assuming for some people this could actually be somewhat of a turn-off: Shantae is quite easy to finish, and never really offers that much of a professional challenge. So if you like to think of yourself as a hardcore gamer who only finds pleasure in pain, I'm afraid this is not for you, as you'll be easy bored. For normal people, however, it's a very pleasant and stress-free ride that doesn't overstay its welcome.

Excellent game visually, in a combat sense, and in its story. Players can find these amazing qualities within this game: - A fun platformer for those who enjoy the genre - Excellent boss fights that define the platformer - Has unique gameplay - Includes an interesting and engaging story that is arguably the best out of the series - Has a good balance of difficulty - Is insanely fun for everyone at every age - Given an absolutely banging soundtrack - Is well worth the 20$ price point, and is a steal at any price lower than that. This game definitely deserves the overwhelmingly positive ratings found within the community for this game. My only issue with this build of the game is that it speeds up when played on a 144hz+ monitor.

This was my first game of this series, pretty fun, with light metroidvania elements. Not too difficult but still fairly challenging.

Just an honestly fun metroidvania platformer. It's got a nice aesthetic and progression did not feel tedious. There's some cool secrets and exploration, while a bit light compared to similar games, is well worth doing. The game is a blend between a nice pixelated aesthetic for the actual gameplay and digital illustrations for the dialogue, some of the illustrations are a little on the fan service side but it's mostly played for laughs, and the dialogue is pretty funny at times. While the game is certainly not flawless, it's surprising just how good it is, I wasn't too familiar with Shantae going into it but ended up really enjoying the experience.

The game is can be fast paced and challenging, maybe not old-school hard but closer than many other modern platformers. Combat controls are pretty tight but have some quirks. A great game overall
