About this game
Lloyd Bannings returns to his hometown to follow his late brother's footsteps and join the Crossbell Police Department. The site of an ongoing territorial struggle between the Erebonian Empire and the Republic of Calvard, Crossbell has developed into a prosperous city-state and one of the continent’s leading economic centers.
After three years away from his hometown, Lloyd Bannings returns in order to follow his late brother's footsteps and join the Crossbell Police Department. However, when he arrives, he finds he's been assigned to the Special Support Section, a new division that handles odd jobs and minor requests. He meets his new teammates, which include Elie MacDowell, the granddaughter of the city's mayor; Randy Orlando, a womanizing ex-soldier; and Tio Plato, a young tech genius.
Though their department is mocked by the media and looked down on by the rest of the CPD, Lloyd and his friends continue to fight to make their city a better place. As they do, however, they slowly come face-to-face with the criminal corruption gripping their city. Little do they know just how deep the shadows of Crossbell City go...

While I do have my gripes with the game, mostly based on how much this game wastes your time with excessive dialogue and constant backtracking, I have to give full props to it's mechanics. The battle system actually makes you think about spell placement and timing, S Breaks are a great way to blitz a group of enemies quickly or do major damage to a boss without uses your turns and best of all you can customise which spells you characters master.
The story is also of note. Not only do you uncover a bunch of interlinking mysteries you get to have some input on how they get solved. A good few of the characters are likeable too, although I have my issues with the main cast.
You also have extra features to keep you entertained like cooking, with the food created giving restorative benefits, fishing to you know catch fish and best of all a decent Casino.
I would definitely recommend it to JRPGs fan but I would also put an asterisk by it. You will need patience when playing this game. So make use of the High Speed mode, just trust me, you do not want to play this game without it.

More Trails excellence with a great cast and a region that while smaller, is one you really get to know. The QoL additions that Geofront originally did are all here such as turbo and the text log and there's some little extra nice things too such as turning on music labels popping up when the music changes.
My only minor complaint is some of the AI upscaling doesn't look great for some background bits.
A great game that sets the stage for Trails to Azure.
