I can only repeat what the others have said already: the multiplayer does not work. You need to create a runic account only for the game to tell you that there is a "firewall error". We have tried for over two hours to fix this and have nothing to show for - it still does not work. As good as the game might be in sigle player, this is simply a no-go for me. They should remove the "online-koop" and all other multiplayer tags as they are simply lies.
Be aware of this, DON'T BUY THE GAME FOR THE MULTIPLAYER!!!!!

Edit (after finishing the game): the game itself is really well done and a lot of fun to play, singleplayer though. With all of the side quests it took me ~30 hours, which is quite good for the price. The story is not that deep but that was to be expected in this kind of game. The fights are nice, not much to think (at least on normal difficulty, I imagine it gets a bit more complex on hardcore). I can recommend to get this game if you liked the first one (Torchlight II is better in my opinion) and don't want to play it in coop but get it on sale.
