About Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

About this game

Wolfenstein®: The Old Blood is a standalone prequel to the critically acclaimed first-person action-adventure shooter, Wolfenstein®: The New Order. The adventure, which spans eight chapters and two interconnected stories, features the hallmarks of MachineGames – thrilling action, immersive story and intense first-person combat. As war hero B.J. Blazkowicz, arm yourself with new weapons such as the bolt-action rifle and grenade-launching Kampfpistole as you attempt to thwart the advancing Nazi war machine, and take advantage of duel-wielding pipes that can be used for wall climbing – or for vicious take-downs of never-before-seen Nazi adversaries.

Story

The year is 1946 and the Nazis are on the brink of winning World War II. In an effort to turn the tide in the allies’ favor, B.J. Blazkowicz must embark on an epic, two-part mission deep within Bavaria….

Part one of Wolfenstein: The Old Blood - Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves - pits BJ Blazkowicz against a maniacal prison warden as he breaks into Castle Wolfenstein in an attempt to steal the coordinates to General Deathshead’s compound. In part two – The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs – our hero's search for the coordinates leads him to the city of Wulfburg where an obsessed Nazi archaeologist is exhuming mysterious artifacts that threaten to unleash a dark and ancient power.

Key Features:

  • The Action!
Experience MachineGames’ intense first-person combat as you brandish all-new Nazi-inspired weapons such as the bolt-action rifle, 1946 shotgun, and the grenade-launching Kampfpistole. Unlock your potential with a new set of perks for hi-octane action and vicious stealth take-downs.

  • The Adventure!
Explore breathtaking set pieces featuring rural Germanic towns, sprawling valleys tangled with cable cars and bridges, ghostly catacombs, as well as a return to the iconic Castle Wolfenstein. Use dual-wielding metal pipes to navigate the world with brand-new wall-climbing abilities.

  • The Terror!
Go up against a new cast of vicious villains and enemies, including legions of hulking new Super Soldiers, elite shock troops, drones and the darkest and most terrifying Nazi creations yet.

Compared to The New Order it's obviously lackluster, considering it was supposed to be a DLC for it but later sprung out to be its own thing, but it arguably has the best atmosphere out of all the MachineGames Wolfenstein games, matching the classic Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I'd go as far to say it's more or less a very loose remake of that game, which is a good thing in my book.

Very enjoyable alternate history game, discover story before The New Order, while still rampage through Nazi germany. Highly recommended with frequent sales going on over the year.

Wolfenstein The New Order was one of the games that just wowed me a lot. It being a reboot, that was so much better than what I was used to from the franchise. Then this little gem came out and apart from some questionable melee stealth only sections, it just grabbed me like the main game did. I anyway would recommend you to play the main game before going into this standalone expansion. You get an interesting story, set in the Wolfenstein world with all the same bells and whistles that the main game had - and since that stuff was great, this is a welcome expansion. The worst part about this game was, that it was basically limited to German and a censored version, which is now rectified and changed. If you play in English, then it is all the more enjoyable, since you then - as a German - understand both sides.

Great characterization that blows past most shooters, and enough anti-Nazi action to give the corpse of Stalin an erection

The campaign can be completed in about 5 hours which also included 1 side mission(sleep mission). I didn't speedrun but it really was a short 2nd half. Its a basic FPS shooter which is a prequel to the reboot of Wolfenstein "The New Order". I said basic since there isn't really any changes it did for most FPSes. It is mostly a linear game with a few character decisions and one of those i didn't even know was an actual choice. Storywise, it doesn't seem to be a origin story, it feels more like a prologue for what is to come. There really is just 1 character that gets introduced well and its the MAIN Character. There are only a few other characters of note and only 1 of them seems to be important enough to appear in the main game. It kinda feels like the game isn't worth it BUT it delivered in the FPS part mostly and did have a different start as an introduction. If i bought this full price I would have been pissed IMO, good thing its part of a cheap bundle in Fanatical(Still available) Hopefully the main game actually has a better length and story(which reviews says it does) Pros - Currently part of Fanatical bundle for 3 games for $10 - Since Bethesda doesn't have Regional Pricing, MS buying Zenimax "should" be a blessing since MS actually follows Steam's Regional pricing and probably a reason why it's suddenly in a cheap bundle - A decent introduction to the MC Needs improvement - Length - Nightmare mode was a bit jarring with no introductions Cons - Pricing for a short game at full price is ridiculous
