About Ara Fell: Enhanced Edition

About this game

"Long, long ago, the elven sorcerers cast a spell to save the floating world of Ara Fell from destruction. Instead, they doomed it to fall from the sky. By chance, the fate of the world has been placed in the hands of a young woman. Join her as she and her friends endeavour against all odds to save their homeland, all while the clock ticks ever nearer the final hour..."

Ara Fell combines the best parts of Japanese-style roleplaying games with the best parts of western RPGs, as well as including elements of visual novels and adventure games to create a truly unique experience. Atmosphere, emotion and surprise lie at the forefront of Ara Fell's story, driven by deep and accessible characters, each with his or her own past, their own desires and their own motivations for joining Lita's quest. Relive the golden age of the RPG with a game that both pays homage to the past greats, as well as blazing its own trail.

  • EXPLORATION - Ara Fell is a world meant to be explored! Jump, crawl, swim and even fly through the air to solve puzzles and discover new locations filled with hidden treasure, secrets and adventure! Every corner of Ara Fell is designed with exploration in mind.
  • OPEN WORLD - Most of the world can be explored from the moment you leave Aloria Village, the heroine's home town... provided, of course, you're strong enough. A clever explorer may be able to unlock secrets and discover powerful equipment early in the game if he or she commits to taking advantage of the open nature of the game world.
  • TACTICAL COMBAT - Ara Fell may be a story-heavy game, but the world is still fraught with danger. Choose specialized equipment and statistics, customizing each character to best suit your play style, and to best thwart each boss battle's unique mechanics.
  • CHARACTER DRIVEN - When you join Ara Fell's unwitting heroine on her quest to save her homeland, you'll discover a world filled with vibrant characters who laugh, cry, crack jokes, lose their tempers, and even their will to go on as the size and scope of the curse that plagues Ara Fell becomes apparent. Friends and villains alike are not who they seem as the stakes grow ever higher...

✔ very story based (simple story simply told, but a good one) ✔ you can (and should?) avoid most enemies walking around the map; no grind (except two optional quests); no random combat ✔ character hp/mp/status restored after every combat encounter ✔ level design (even though sometimes puzzles don't make sense and the game even makes fun of itself that the path was blocked for a convoluted reason) ❔ freedom in how you spend attribute and skill points (plus class upgrades), however by the end it doesn't matter that much since you end up at about the same place ❔ always the same four party members ✘ no exp for dead team members Overall it's an extremely well made example of this genre. My only real critique is that it's so competent at what it does that it could have tried to take more risks. Try to push towards greatness. It was a great time nevertheless.

Great indie JRPG with a lot of great characters, good sense of humour and an interesting story with just enough twists and turns.

Charming JRPG with great writing, funny protagonist and lots of small details. You can pet the town cats and they react if you do. Not innovative but wholesome and well rounded.

Only a few hours into playing so not a complete opinion but so far really relaxing and vampire villains seem unexpected in something so bright.

Ara Fell is a well done tribute to SNES era RPGs. The characters are likeable and there are just enough plot twists and turns to keep the story interesting. The monsters show up on the world map, so you can either grind to your heart's content or try to avoid combat. In addition to upgrading equipment, you can select "enchants" for your character as well as stat allocation to customize your party for your style. Both can be reset in case you want to try something different. When I initially left the first town and realized how large the world was, it was a bit overwhelming. A lot of SNES-era RPGs with a world map still have a sort of set path you ended up following (usually bottling you in with mountain ranges and oceans until it was time to access other areas). Once I got going with the game, however, it didn't seem nearly as bad as I first was afraid of. The music selection isn't huge, but it is good. Some of the tracks reminded me of FFVI music (which is a good thing). I loved the graphics. The charming style nailed 90s era RPGs. Colorful pixels abound. I played on normal difficulty, and by the time I did my normal exploring and side questing I found myself able to beat the game without any grinding. I felt like I was playing with a damage-heavy but squishy team and since the HP and MP reset between encounters this worked well for me. If I was playing on a harder mode, I may have had to readjust a bit...but the game allows for that. I was pleased with my time in this game! My actual play hours were probably between 20-30 hours and I feel like I saw most of the content via talking to NPCs and sidequests. The developer doesn't have a sequel planned (as of me writing this), but hasn't ruled it out either. I'd definitely consider buying a sequel or other titles and would recommend this to anyone interested in the SNES era of RPGs.

Great RPG with a solid story. Nothing mindblowing so if you don't like the genre it won't change your mind, but if you like RPGs it's a good one to pick up.
