So, you want to be a pirate? Black Flag is not only one of the best Assassin's Creed games of the series but one of the best pirate games to have ever been made. Hunt for treasure, visit unknown islands, sail your ship, do ship to ship battles..you can do it all. The bland Ubisoft open world formula wasn't yet perfected so you will be getting an interesting story with memorable characters and gameplay

Assassin's Creed 4 (AC4) tells the story of Edward Kenway, a pirate in the early 1700's looking for fortune and glory. He gets involved in the war of Assassin's against Templars, for reasons that I won’t spoil for you, and from that point on it’s an exhilarating and a bit inspiring tale of adventure, mystery and treasure hunting in the Caribbean. If you are new to the AC games I’m glad to inform you that you don’t need to know the previous titles. This is mostly because this game shares some of the lore of the older ones, but it does not rely heavily on them to have a good and enjoyable narrative. All that you need to know is that there is a way to relive the memories of your ancestors, and that Assassins and Templars are a thing.
Questions you might have if you're interested in playing it:

What is it exactly that you do in the game? Most of the time you spend sailing around the Caribbean Sea looking for booty, boarding and stealing treasure from other ships or just exploring beautiful locations for various collectables and money. Besides that, on land you do your classic AC stuff, like following people, climbing stuff and sometimes killing guards.
Will it make my eyes bleed? With this you have to consider that this was the last AC main game optimized for the seventh generation of consoles. So don’t expect the smooth textures from the modern games. With that out of the way I have to admit that the art direction of this game is sublime and it helps a lot in making the game look stunning, especially for a 2013 title. By far the best thing, graphically speaking of this game is the water simulation in the open ocean. Nothing that I have seen since has even come close to how good the water looks in this game.
Does it have a good story? This is a hard one… I dare to say even a controversial question to answer. Before the soft reboot of the AC franchise this was considered the least “Assassins” feeling game in the whole series and yes I agree, all the “Assassins” related things in this game are background stuff that you can ignore. But the story of Edward is rather cool and touching and I really love it. I’m going to put it this way: If you go into this game expecting a story about the Asssasins’ brotherhood link in the previous games, you will be disappointed. Most of that stuff is really weak in this tittle. But if you go expecting an exciting pirate adventure and a story about a man that...

Base game is great but be aware as of 2021 season pass DLC like Freedom Cry do not work. Ubisoft support says that they can't do anything about it and we have to wait for an update or fix, there hasn't been an update in years.
