About Call of Juarez

About this game

Call of Juarez is an epic adventure western themed FPS game. The player alternately assumes the roles of two distinct, antagonistic characters: a sneaking fugitive Billy and his hunter the reverend Ray. Apart from the highly interesting, emotional and psychological aspect of the link between the two characters, the player will experience a variety of gameplay with many differences whilst playing a particular character.

The game features fast paced revolver duels using historically accurate firearms, horseback riding, mounted combat and stealth actions in memorable locations set after Western movies. Emergent gameplay based on accurate simulation of not only rigid bodies and rag-dolls but also liquids, gases, fire and smoke makes the gameplay innovative and non-linear.

  • Very serious approach to the Wild West theme and detailed reconstruction of the character and visuals of that times
  • The use of physics and innovative simulation of fire, liquids, dust, smokes and gases to construct emergent gameplay
  • State of the art graphics making use of the top technology graphics cards features on todays cards.
  • Playing 2 distinct characters with different abilities and different gameplay
  • Horseback riding and saddle shooting, gunfighter duels
  • Using the whip to fight, move objects and move the player's character
  • Legendary weapons form the Gold Fever era and full akimbo mode for the hands on approach.
  • Exhilarating storyline with full of twists and turns in this exciting Western Genre.

Solid buy for any collection for someone who loves shooters or westerns in general.

Best western video game other than RDR2. I prefer the gunplay in this one over other western games I have played. Solid buy for any collection for someone who loves shooters or westerns in general. Funny dialogue with a charming, comedic story. Must buy!

Call of Juarez is an old game, it shows but it's still decent. The gunslinger sections are pretty good, but the platforming with the other character is extremely boring. Perfect game to complete a bundle but not a big entertainment

A memorable western

A fine western shooter with a memorable history. History is what it really shine for me, playing as Billy, the young sneaky bastard where you play with stealth trying to scape with a rope to jump cliff to cliff and a bow to kill quietly and Ray, the elephant in the room, God fearing exterminator of sinners with armor plate. Unfortunaly directx10 loading screen are excessively long forcing you to use directx9(IN MY CASE) wich makes the outdated graphics much more outdated. Anyway, it is a magnificent experience.

Despite the visuals being dated, the story and game play is straightforward and enjoyable. One great concept in this shooter game is the bullet time when you trigger it giving you an edge over your enemies. You can modify your keys to suit the way you play.

The pioneer of modern Wild West themed games, CoJ is the grandfather of Red Dead Redemption

The game that started the Wild West craze (I'll just ignore Red Dead Revolver since it had 0 depth compared to CoJ), and one that put Poland on the big-boys-in-game-development list (with Techland releasing CoJ and CD Projekt RED releasing The Witcher in the same year - now-distant 2007), Call of Juarez was a marvel at the time: with raving reviews praising the tech, the vast (but pretty empty) locales that gave you a sense of freedom, and with Wild West theme that was rarer than a horseshoed unicorn, it won the hearts of many gamers world-wide. Having played it recently 'til completion, I can say that it withstood the test of time and is perfectly playable on new systems, offering some 10+ hours of shootin' and sneakin'. The story is nice, although not better than in it's sequel/prequel Bound in Blood (which btw ties the McCall saga in a bundle perfectly), and the music is okay. Be sure to play it on Hard, unless you want a quick & safe ride through the game.
