Mad Max is an overall fun game. What it lacks in story, it makes up for with a great driving mechanic, a well-filled, engaging map and environment. The combat works well, and the survival and scrap aspects are also lots of fun. Despite being released in 2015, it still really holds up in 2022 as one of the best open-world experiences out there.

This is an older game, and one I started a few years ago. I got distracted by other games, but finally came back and completed it 100%. Let me say, the ~70 hours I put into it were almost all worth it. If you're going to try complete every challenge, it can get a little tedious, especially if you play through the 'wrong' way, making the challenges more difficult. That being said, excepting the achievement grind, there is no 'right' way to play. This open world story has a lot to do to run around and avoid the main story, which is fun. Explore, race, beat up the baddies, etc, etc. The world is beautifully done, with a responsive environment that may not persist over time, but it's really cool to just look at the scenery as you play. However, if you just want a story, that's good too. No spoilers, but I was pleasantly surprised (and saddened) by the bleak outlook of the game, and the script does well to play in the theme. If you just rush through to the end, you'll be underpowered for the final fight, and you may be disappointed by the amount of total play time you'll get, but that's why all those side missions exist. You don't even have to do them all, just do the ones you like. For the bad stuff? Again, 100% completion is a little tedious, but doable. I've seen some complaints about the Chumbucket character as being annoying or... whatever. I totally disagree and think his quirkiness is a bit endearing. Maybe that's just me? The only real downside in the game overall was the final fight. There were more varied mechanics than earlier big fights, but the fight itself didn't feel as epic as even some of the minor top dog scuffles. The story/cutscenes were mixed into the fight, however, and still made it an enjoyable experience overall.

The game is fun, the vehicular combat is great and the combat on foot is standard. The story is simple but enjoyable, the extra activities are a bit repetitive.
