About Shadows of Doubt

About this game

A procedurally-generated sandbox stealth game with a whole city of secrets at your fingertips!

Shadows of Doubt is set in an alternate reality in the hyper-industrialized 1980s. Think like a detective and use a variety of gadgets as a private intelligence investigator, gathering evidence and making money by solving cases, finding and selling information and more.

Play your way in a fully simulated world with hundreds of citizens. Discover, meet and tail individual citizens, each with their name, job, apartment and daily routine, in unique, procedurally-generated cities. Each case has different culprits, clues and experiences for you to test your investigative skills.

TOTAL FREEDOM

Explore anywhere in the city! Every nook of every trashy bar, every place of work, every seedy hotel room… This dystopia is your oyster. Break into apartments, rifle through secret documents or hack security systems - even a discarded receipt can be the key to cracking a case. Trace the receipt back to an individual location, scour CCTV footage and match the time to the receipt to find out who it belonged to!

THE WORLD LIVES ON, WITH, OR WITHOUT YOU

The entire world is fully simulated. Each citizen has an apartment, job, daily routine, favourite things to do, places to go, and people to interact with. They live their lives independently, in a world that moves on with or without you— uncover this knowledge and use it to your advantage!

STEP INTO THE BOOTS OF A PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR

Become a private investigator in a truly unique detective experience. Think like a detective to solve the cases around you: check call histories, find passwords, read private emails, speak to persons of interest, watch CCTV footage and more to retrieve evidence and build your case. Store information on your investigation board and link evidence together as you piece together the full picture.

Features

I have about 3 1/2 hours of gameplay so far and even though there is a lack of polish on certain aspects of the game, (such as certain broken animations) the game’s fault are nothing major and have yet to stop me from immersing myself in this gritty, cyber punk detective world of shadows of doubt, and I can’t help but recommend it, for I feel there’s no game like it, so, if you’re looking for an amazing cyber punk detective game that you could have theoretically, hundreds of hours of playtime in, I would recommend shadows of doubt truly yours, GoodGamesGary.

The best experience that I've had with a game in a long time. For YEARS this is exactly what I was looking for. A procedurally generated detective game where it wasn't always the same killer or victim every time, gather clues, get leads, solve case. The last few updates for the game have considerably improved overall performance, and I look forward to future content updates to keep things fresh and exciting. The game also has things you need to take care of like hunger, thirst, body temperature, hygiene, etc. But you can disable all or some of those to suit your own playstyle.

A good procedurally generated immersive sim detective game. As of writing this review still a bit buggy but it is in early access and it is to be expected. Would recommend if you like games like deus ex, hitman, etc.

The amount of things you can do in Shadows of Doubt really surprised me. You don't just solve randomly generated cases (murders, theft, gathering information, etc.), but you can also buy your own apartment, decorate it and there are optional status effects like hunger or thirst. There are many ways you can solve cases, like checking out someone's workplace, their friends and neighbours or even finding names in the phonebook. The amount of detail is amazing and I've been wanting a game like this for years. You can interact with most things, like light switches, doors (knocking, lock-picking and peeking underneath) or any item you see. I highly recommend Shadows of Doubt. I like how people have routines and do different things; it makes the city feel alive. Taking on cases and getting money to buy different apartments and furniture for it is also quite fun. If you like sandbox or detective games, then you'd probably like this one. In the Early Access version are currently some bugs and performance issues (longer loading times, and stuttering), but despite those issues, I still recommend it.

This game is great, it is in early access so of course it's a buggy mess, but once you see past all the bugs this game offers a glorious detective experience like no other game can.
